If you have Itunes you can view a clip of the new film , it’s in the Podcasts section under Trailercast.tv.Dawn Rescue. But better still read the book called “Escape from Laos” By the man himself. , I got my copy from a 2nd hand bookshop, its a really good read. (although I’m sure the publishers will reprint it off the back of the new film.:) )
Fantastic!
Well done Paul it looks great. I purchased one of your prints a few years ago so was pleased to see your latest work. My farther remembers the Princess on it’s first flight-can’t wait to see your take on it.
Keep up the good work.
Is Vanderkloot the pilot who flew Churchill across the Atlantic in that giant Clipper Flying boat in the 40’s?
Thanks Guys,
there’s a few books I haven’t read on some of those list’s so I’ve started tracking some of them down.
Incidentally if any of you want to chase a aviation book that you can’t find in your local 2nd hand book shop you can always try a company called Abebooks. They are a bit like Amazon but mainly deal in 2nd hand, I’ve used them a lot and they are reliable.
Thanks Dan, “Nanette” certainly is one of the best books I’ve read and up until now I’ve not found anyone else who has heard of it. Edwards Park has written another book I believe not sure what it’s called but I think it’s along the same lines as “Nanette”.Any one know of or read that one?
Yep, Gift of Wings by Richard Bach is definitely in my top ten and Piece of cake is also superb. But who wrote Under an English heaven?
Thanks Mr T,
“Black 6” was a fantastic machine and with a distinctive sound to.
I remember catching her at Duxford on a number of occasions. Truly unique.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Nice pix Mark9. Lets hope the weather is a scorcher for the big day.
Yeah, that makes sense. I guess this years Legends could have just as many last appearance’s as firsts. I hope not I love the “Big Cats” routine.
Is the Tigercat really for sale?
OK ok so I let my enthusiasm get the better of me but a Bomber Command night/evening a Duxford would be a great idea. Airfields at dusk have an extraordinary atmosphere.
Fantastic stuff!
Imagine if we could see an airshow at Duxford with both the Static And airworthy examples of airframes side by side= BBMF Lancaster and IWM’s example next to each other would be an amazing sight!. In fact never mind an airshow how about an evening where we get to see a line up of types from the IWM collection and private examples. Themed evenings with Costumed extras. How about a Bomber Command evening=Lancaster, Mosquito maybe the Real aeroplane Co’s Night fighter Hurricane.,ending with sun set flypast. We could have a Jet themed Evening telling the story of it’s development using both static examples from Duxford’s collection and today’s airworthy airframes to show the jets genesis. Endless combinations of airframes with an educational slant.
I helped out on this project back in the mid 90’s and spent many happy evenings at Dick Meltons hangar. He told me he was planning to fly it up to the Lake District, and I always hoped to be there on that day. It’s an amazing aircraft with a great story. It’s also had a lots of TLC and could still make it to flight!.
Deep RAF Blue-fantastic stuff!
I remember my first visit to an airshow back in the eighties, you were lucky if you got 1 spitfire or Mustang back then, and I recall thinking how great it would be to have massed formations of exotic warbirds like they were doing in the US. We are still just as lucky to see these things now as it was then, and with costs rising and red tape tightening we should just enjoy the summers flying what ever it brings.
