Turkey REALLY wants the codes and puts a hold on the order.

Bigger question, what are they talking about in the underlined sections?

That is an awful Turkish-to-English translation written already by an awfully misinformed journalist.

The issues with Turkish F-35 order is two-fold:

    1. Limited or preferably full access to OFP codes in order to integrate locally developed sensors and most importantly weapon systems such as HGK, KGK and MDM.

    2. More work sahre to Turkish defence contractors, especially ASELSAN from the project – ASELSAN wants to participate in the dev prod. of EOTS AFAIK.

    (3. Turkey also wants to establish a joint training facility in Konya)

Total order is expected to be as high as 116, most possibly in 100 + 16 scheme.

The source code / OFP thing is being discussed at grotesque levels of intelligence mixed with insane paranoia here in Turkey. There are even so-called experts claiming it is possible to remotely control and down a Bell 206 by satellite (the case of a politician whose Bell 206 crashed near a mountain in heavy fog during winter time).

    Yes.

Mate, I think you should check your sources. TAI never produced any kind of missiles let alone Popeye. A total of 46 Popeye missiles were purchased for 90 mil USD in 2002. With datalinks assembled in MIKES under license. Licensed production of Popeye II at Roketsan was on the agenda but that project was abandoned. Additionally, Roketsan and MKE are the companies dealing with R&D and production of munitions, missiles and rockets; these systems are not TAI’s responsibilities or field of expertise.

    Were these the MLRS projects?

Kasirga (WS-1) is an artillery rocket while Yildirim (B-611) is a battlefield tactical ballistic missile.

No idea about it, what happened?

Both were licensed production projects turned out to be overwhelmingly overpriced with little if none ToT promises fullfilled.

Thank you for the replies. In the opinion of the esteemed members here, what is the likelihood of a China-Turkey collaboration on the fighter project?

Though not impossible, given the bitter experience from WS-1 (Kasirga) and B-611 (J-600T Yildirim) missile projects, I find it highly unlikely.

There are news about Turkish companies are going to take part in the Korean KF-X project but Turkey especially want an %50-50 share at that project for its future fighter plans!

This is not the case. MoD Vecdi Gonul stated that Turkey is not interested in joining an existing project, be it KF-X or EF-2000 or any other aircraft programme.

In fact, Koreans offered partnership in KF-X, however, their proposal was based on “Turkey pays, we develop technology, Turkey buys the jets” model. This offer was declined, as well as joining in EF-2020 project. So, participation to KF-X seems highly unlikely.

My guess is a projct model like Altay main battle tank (i.e. local development + foreign know-how & technology transfer) is more likely.

JDAMs or the planned Turkish equivalent? And what king of target designator pod, Litening?

The pods in the photo are LANTIRN. ASELPOD is in prototype stage, don’t know if flight testing has begun or not.

HGK so far has been carried exclusively by F-4E 2020s.
