There’s a Seahawk rotting away in Defford, Worcestershire. It’s been outside for years. It’s in company with an extremely rotten Vampire T11 and Meteor.
sounds interesting though repetitive and proven to be unsubstantiated….
but do you see this as being as contemptible as a certain very senior member of the present US Administration who was a quest of good old Iran bashing Saddam how many times? How much money did the good ole U.S of A. pump into Iraq during their war with Iran? Is this contemptible as well ?
Not unsubstantiated at all. The bank accounts are fact and he has chosen not to respond to the UNs questioning regarding the missing charity millions.
As regards the Iran-Iraq war, I think you’ll find the French and Russians pumped in 95% of Saddams needs. Of course this fact would prevent any US bashing, so we’ll ignore that. And if you’re not concerned about a man who wants to build nuclear weapons, who repeatedly states his aim as wiping Israel off the map, you should be.
The area around Bagdhad is a mess at the moment. Most of the country is peaceful. As far as the media is concerned, peace doesn’t make for good viewing figures. Unfortunately lots of religious extremist are taking every opportunity to grease their own palms, knowing the US will be blamed.
It’s perfectly true that the coalition planning for the end of the war was poor, but it’s not the US running around with death squads.
As for British politicians receiving oil money from Saddam – name some people and give your evidence if you feel there is a case to answer.
In order to prevent any action against the forum…I won’t. But all the info you need isn’t hard to find. Just look into the wealth of a certain oedious, thoroughly corrupt individual with a luxury home in Portugal. A wife who had very large amounts paid into a bank account courtesy of the Iraqi oil ministry and the still unaccounted for sums of money that were supposed to be for an injured Iraqi child. (Concerns raised by the UN!) The man might be articulate, but he’s still utterly corrupt.
You seem to ignore the huge warehouses that were stocked with medical supplies, owned by Saddams sons. They prevented them from getting to the civilian population in order to drive up black markey prices.
Saddam could buy unlimited quantities of medicine for the population, he just chose not too because it suited him. In fact, he was allowed to sell millions of pounds worth of oil in order to finance it. He just used the money to line the palms of certain corrupt British Politicians.
Back to topic, bring the Fury home.
And when they’ve landed she can do the washing up!! :diablo:
“female vintage fighter pilot”
I take it you mean the aircraft and not the ladies 😀
Interesting piece in the DT today about tons of surplus equipment andmunitions being thrown down mineshafts at the end of the war.
Thanks, found it. Would seem to be in better condition than the Loch Ness Wimpey was.
I think the Nigerian Jags were re-aquired by Bae and their wings used for RAF Jags and other spares.
(I may have dreamt it though! 🙂 )
First off can i say i watched the programme and i have read all of this thread and i can say the thread has to be the most enjoyable of the two , its been hilarious!!.
I learnt something new though I didnt know of the friendly fire angle to the story before
Secondly a point which i may of missed, what is the significance of Schlagers 109 still having its tail? if he did collide with DB are we to assume it was tail to tail [which to my untrained mind seems a bit farfetched]
I am sure someone will have an answer.
Can i just say again what a joy it has been to read this thread with lots of people throwing the dummy out of the pram for various reasons!
The point was Casson reported shooting an aircraft down by blowing its tail off. The only german aircraft shot down on the day still had its tail!
Amazing… the MoD think they can get 7500 quid for a Lightning nose, yet are throwing away complete Jaguars at 500 quid a time…!!
I’ll have a £500 Jag….where from??
I’m glad you posted that pic. Thought I was seeing things when I watched the programme!!
I’ve got nearly all the issues of both Battle and Warlord in the attic of my mums house. Unfortunatey, I cut out a lot of the posters. Shame really, might be worth a few quid now.
This time a few really old Iraqi planes.
That vampire (thread 64) ‘333’ is now at Barton. I spent many hours helping restore the pod. We had a devil of a time finding a top hatch for the old framework canopy and ended up swapping a complete Vulcan instrument panel for it.
(Sorry, don’t know how to copy the image)
I remember a documentary on BBC a few years ago, where some ancient, meddle dripping ex-Soviet general claimed that under the Soviet regime, they weren’t allowed to admit to ever having Spitfires delivered and he actually stated that they were vital to the defence of Moscow and without them the city could have been lost, Spitfires and Hurricanes battling over Moscow must have been hard for Uncle Joe to take.
At that time period, they wouldn’t have been Mk1X’s, more like BoB cast offs.A few years back there was a kids annual called ‘Warlord’ that my son was potty about.
It featured a disgraced RAF pilot who flew Hurricanes with the ‘Ivans’ in Russia and for the life of me I can’t remember what this character was called, he still wore his RAF uniform but was, like many cartoon characters, ‘A power unto himself’. Can anyone remember this, I used to love it, I have some of these books kicking around in boxes somewhere but it would take an age to find them.
Being reading a while but never registered. This post filled me with many happy memories, waiting for my copies of Warlord and Battle to arrive.
The chap you refer to was ‘Johnny Red’. My favorite character in the comic!
