🙂 born Rochford 17/06/76, nan lived if Bruton Avenue in early 80’s, as a toddler would go running into shed and hide scared stiff of the Viscounts and Heralds. The sound of Darts haunted me and used to have nightmares fast forward to early 90’s and developed a great love for civil aviation (how I don’t know) and the Viscount. Now the sound of the Dart has to rank as one of the best sound in the world 🙂 Now living in New Malden in Surrey, but still regular visitor to the home town !!!

Is the Andover the same one that was offered for sale by Hanningfield Metals at the same time that Viscount cockpit of G-AOHL was for sale I wonder? The andover was listed as being ex queens flight?

Thats a great model! I had a base board made up, just a tad smaller though so I could display some of the Viscounts i’d bought over time, I then had my brother in law make it into a coffee table…. Missus not keen on it but hey ho! :p

Did this aircraft not actually enter service with Channel Airways then? I have just got back from Southend and have been thru my aircraft things and found the logbook I have. There are bits of paper listing modification numbers, rigging data etc but in the the actual log there are only a few entries they are :-

10 May 1965 Phase one inspection completed
12 Feb 1967 Phase two inspection completed
12 Apr 1967 Check number two complete

then there are a few details about ferry flights and totals, then under this, written in pencil is written ‘Cr. during t/o for C of A airtest 3/5/1967’

Sorry to resurect an old thread, but my dad and I were talking about this crash the other day… he was hanging around the area with his pals at the time and was told to clear off by groundstaff, he recalls shortly after, the viscount came down and he and his pals ducked for cover in the brook that aparently runs by the runway….

ok, I know the urbex community are somewhat frowned upon in these circles, but on the 28dl website, under ‘Other sites’ there is a thread about a scrapyard in SE london, scroll down the pics nearly to the bottom and there are a couple of pics of derelict lorries, one of which being a yellow Foden with ‘Norwich Airport’ on the door… any chance this could have formed part of a superfueller or some other kind of fueller?
