I haven’t been for a while, isn’t that new building on the runway or something? didn’t they used to have fly-ins?
All the more reason for one to be preserved asap!:( I always believed oe should be returned to Southend, but after reading various articles about what happend to the last one there, think chances would be somewhat remote!!!!:( 🙁 btw how many airframes are actually left?
But thats just it, Newforest, they don’t tag. Any tags in the photos are done by vandals and graffiti “artists”. The UEs explore the building, take photos and leave. Unless they find an open door or window, a gap in a fence or similar they don’t go in. It’s one of the rules, no breaking and entering. Like I said earlier, enter, take photos, leave footprints, nothing else.
And regarding chavs and “pikeys”, it’s amazing how many of the explored buildings have been trashed by chavs and the “pikeys” have stolen the cores of the wiring.
All the above said, I also do not think it’s right to clamber all over delicate airframes and climb fences, although I did enjoy urbexing myself and fully support the hobby.
Anyway, nuff said.
From what I have read, most of the UE’s don’t believe in actually stealing things from the sites they visit. One of them acually uses the quote ‘Take only photo’s, leave only footprints’
few around Heathrow
Just a few from the Heathrow vicinity, Viscount Way, Vanguard Way, Nene Road, Northolt Road, Wessex Road, De havilland Way, Comet Road, Corsair Road
and ‘Comet Way’!
Attached is a snap from a recent trip to Berlin. Any other street names in the world have an aviation theme?
I believe there is an Avro Road, a Bristol Road and a Vickers Road somewhere in the vicinity of Southend Airport.
Yup! Certainly is and there’s also ‘Aviation Way’:D
Hope it does fly! 17th June’s my birfday so it would be great!!!!:p
wasn’t there a fleet of antarctic craft based at Fairoaks some time back?
Yep, I’ve signed too!
mate brought them in on a dvd for me. from the look of it, they are from an old airing on UK Gold!
QANTAS never operated Carvairs mate!
MY bad! It was Ansett that had them. Sorreee!:o
To get back on the subject, I don’t remember Qantas flying DC-4s. Where would they have flown them to? Weren’t they a bit short range for international flights?
DC-6s perhaps!
Bri:confused:
Their Carvairs were based on DC4 airframes:)
Is the Heathrow visitors centre still open?
If anyone is interested let me know, I can source most of the cockpit interior for the Viscount, incl seats, panels, throttles etc. Just need the shell of a cockpit to fit them into, but with 2 young kids and a demanding full time job I havent got the time to get involved too much, next best thing is to go into partnership with someone. Mind you the cost of transporting this cockpit pit out of Stock in Essex to where ever will be a crippler in cost!
I’d be interested, but my missus already huffy from the last visit I made to you and came back with the Viscount books!!! says I need to stop!:D
Oh Superb!! A Viscount with running engines! It’s a sound I haven’t heard since I moved from Southend 🙁 That’ll definitely be worth a visit for me!:D
