Conspiracies – like, UK knew of the attack and omitted to tell – are fair for any observer looking beyond “what” happened, to uncover “why”. Napoleon not at his best at Waterloo cos Josephine had a headache the night before. Wellington on song cos his mistress was in Brussels the night before.
Japan on our side WW1. Moves away in 1920s. Invades China looking for food &tc. US had a missionary zeal towards China, and trade interests. Imposes sanctions, inc. oil. Japan would freeze and starve, so needs E.Indies oil. Dutch happy to sell, cave in under US pressure. War inevitable…but localised, Japan v.Orient colonials/USN out of Philippines.
So, why did Hitler declare War on US – remember it was that way round? UK was petrified US would do Pacific-only, this screwing Lend/Lease and leaving UK/USSR hung out to dry. Hitler’s Declaration, consistent with a 1940 Treaty, would do nothing practical to help Japan…except to split US Forces and send some of them after his ass.
We all forget that “world-domination” is not a Statesman’s aim. Japan wanted oil, Hitler eastern Lebensraum, both simply to feed a populace exceeding home resources. Both would have been happy to stop at that. Why spend men and treasure after securing supply? Bring the boys home, make babies, enjoy the life of the chosen ones.
Here’s my preferred answer: by 11/12/41 quick-fix bogged down, USSR not folding but fighting. Japan likely to get to Indonesian oil – and stop – before he gets over the Desert to Abadan, down the Volga to Baku. USN unable to do much, cos it’s been deleted (he thought), so US likely to grumble and accept new status quo – like he thought UK would over Poland – because that would have been logical. Bolshevism, not Nat-Soc. was the true Threat to UK/US, and was the Threat to Germany. So he needed an Ally to attack USSR in Siberia, draw off the as-yet-unused mass of the Asiatic Red Army.
What an excellent post Ken, you certainly know your stuff:cool:
But do you think there is substance in us Brits knowing…i’ll rephrase that…believing an attack on the US was immenent, since we had been reading the Imperial Navys codes for a number years?
I agree it may be just a theory, and if true, then by association we must have had an idea of the attacks on our own colonies of Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Personally i believe we possibly did have a whiff of something “big”, about to occur, but whether Churchill would would of sacrificed his own colonies, for the sake of bringing the US into the war is another question.
Certainly Churchill was actively enticing the US to take a more active part in the war effort.
But i guess we will never know.
I think the IIRC have missed one obvious user, namely India:eek:
Then theres Algeria and Possibly Cuba:confused:
Maybe Sudan?
The U.S would have entered the war at some point. Roosevelt was just waiting for the right reason to convince a still very isolationist american Public.
From 1940, the US started escorting convoys in American waters, then started escorting these convoys part of the way across the Atlantic.
The loss of an American destroyer within american waters, almost brought the US into the war before Pearl Harbour.
Besides the isolationists within America, Roosevelt knew that the US military would not be ready until at least 1942.
British Crypto-analysts had broken the Japanese codes very early on, and were aware of the Japanese plan….they just failed to relay the information to our american cousins.
That was on the order of Churchill himself, who had been very active in trying to convince the US into the war.
So the Americans are quite innocent this time lol
Does a Camal have humps lol

Im in a spoiling mood, so heres a MiG.21UM from Mali, based at Bamako:cool:

Could somebody be kind enough, and post Curahees pics on here, since for some odd reason i cant get into the link:confused:
I must have some sort of gleak with my browser:mad:
Holy cow.. Can’t anyone fix the problem with putting up images in the thread?
I’m also bloody pissed off as someone grumbled like a chick before..:diablo: and cannot let this go on happening. Have it fixed by replacing what it described low diskspace with newer one.As a matter of fact, I have just picked up a web address full of Mi-24V/35P adorned with a motted camouflage scheme along with letters in french “Force Aerienne Congolaise” specifying that this is one of them operating around the Kamina IAP, DR Congo, and then decided not to keep it only to myself leaving the URL here, making sure that how some highly-paid mercenary warriors fought the war in their awe-provoking powerful gunship of russian origin.:diablo:
In addtion to letting you know about hind operations being handled clandestinely within DR Congo in the form of photographic evidence,
I also do not believe that you all would have seen a DR Congo’s Mi-17 Hip completely spray-painted black, making a stop at a remote refueling point while recklessly squashing largely-organized guerilla activities and insurbodinate local populations in conjunction with Ugandan Mi-17 Hips as well.:p
Curahee, thanks for link.
Im not sure if its just me, but it does work mate:rolleyes:
Holy smoke Banshee… Excellent stuff. I like the bonus of Floggers thrown in

Why?
Welcome to the forum
Definately Angolan, look at the codes:eek:
An image from Google Earth…it shows Su-22s in Blast pens, look carefully, and you can see that the majority are adorned in the Camo pictured above.

And another from Angola, again the majority are painted in the sand/green/earth scheme. The exception being the bird at the top of the line, which is one of the ex slovak machines

A couple of Angolan Su.27s can be seen here, sunning themselves on the apron at Luanda. One is a Single-seater:cool:

Four ex Slovakian Fitters sit on the Pan at Catumbela:cool:
I will try and get a higher res image.

Thanks for the I.Ds guys, its appreciated:cool:
another:)

Angolan Fitters:)

Not sure with this one, but they look like a couple of strikemasters, a chipmunk, and a DH dove?????
