Yup, those were posted here quite a while ago.. Some maniac with apparent suicidal tendences has shot them on Lakatia-Hmelmin Base in spring 2006. They belong(ed?) to 618th squadron of the Syrian Navy.

Any chance of getting hold of this suicidal maniac and asking him what else he has captured on film/card 😉 …thats if hes still healthy 😀

    Banshees weekly Digest Five!!!

    1. Found these two pics on some rather boring and unreadable russian forum 😮

Note the naval roundel, quite different to the standard one used by the Syrian Air Force. 😎

    1. Cubas Naval air arm is the user of this Mi-14PL. 😎

    2. Whilst its air force uses the widespread Hind.

3,4,5 and 6. Im bored  …so lets go to Equatorial Guinea 😀

    7. This AN-26 carries UTAGE titles, but i suspect that the Air Force uses it. Military personel can be seen near the ramp.

    8. This US registered Bae125 is used on behalf of the Equatorial Guinea Goverment.

    9. The ongoing conflict within the Congo throws up some unusual items. With a UN brokered deal to inhibit arms shipments to the country, and particurly the numerous armed factions within the east of the country, many clandestine aircraft operate out of Rwanda and Uganda. This An-2 has been noted by the UN as one such Bird.

    10. Uganda has used this AN-8 out of Entebbe into Goma.

    Banshees weekly Digest Five!!!

1 and 2. Two more pics of Armenian Frogfoots. Im intrigued by the MiG.25 in the background, both Armenia and Azerbaijan were reported to have had one ortwo in thier respective inventories, during their bloody war of the early nineties…

    3. A YAK-52 and……

    4..YAK-55 used for training 🙂

    5. Another trainer, but one with a potent sting, a SU-25UB Frogfoot-B.

    6. Now im not particularly sure about this one, and it may be solely civil  , however…the fin flash and serial point to goverment use. Does the BDW in the code, stand for Bahamas Defence Wing???

    7. Bangladesh operates a small Army Air Wing, which uses this Cessna 208.

    8. Another good source for the unusual are Aircraft brokers. Mny a good pic can sometimes be found. This PC-7 belonged to Chad.

9 and 10. And from the same source is this ex Chile Army MD-530FF. This one carries a darker scheme than normal.

Love that Gabonese Mirage F1. Whats the story behind it?, 5 replacement?.

I have some wonderful things for yous today, courtesy of the Russian web. Now you know my frustrations with this sector of the internet, and i dont speak russian, but it does show what results can be achieved with a little patiance

I still have not located any suitable download that enables me to search in cyrillic and which is free. So help is needed here 😉

I have again included a few scans, magazines always proving a magical source for the unusual.

    1. Another of those Afghan Hip photos, though this time more unusual since its a northern alliance bird, in the customary black/green scheme, and with the roundel painted over. Ex Tadjik or Turkman?, cica 2001/2?

    2. Another northern alliance bird, this time its a much rarer one in the form of a Antonov 26 😎

    3. The An-2 still soldiers on in many corners of the world, its ruggidness and versitility proving to be a successful combination. This one can be found within Armenia.

4 and 5. Armenia also operates the L-39C. These two showing the the variaty found with the camo scheme.

    6. This variaty can also be found upon thier Hoplites, emphasised in this pic.

    7. A nose end view of one of thier Mi-8MTs.

    8. This Mi-8S caries the EX suffix, and is used on VIP duties.

    9. A craftsman and his tools…Hind-F 😮

    10. A frogfoot utilises its brake chute, with a Candid seen in the background. Although seeming in civil guise, these are aso used and proberly owned by the military.

Thanks guys, my leanings are now towards Tadjikistan. I do remmember the UN aswell as the Pakistan authorities issuing a call for more helicopter lift at around this time…..a call that was answered by a number of countrys.

To back up the Tadjik claim, does anyone have a list of nations that sent choppers to the area? 🙂

I will be posting my weekly finds either later tonight, or sometime tomorrow…and guys, im not saying a lot here, but beleive me when i say, that it will include a few eye poppers! 😉 🙂

U sure it’s not one of the former Soviet Republic’s, like Uzbekistan or Tajikistan???

No, im not sure at all.

Im basicly going on the colouration of the band, and matching it to national colours of likely candidates, as found on those nations roundels/flags.

I think the above omits Uzbekistan.

But having said that, the serial would fit either nation.

    UAE Mi-17?

Another unknown im afraid, though this time a few better clues in the form of red/white/green upper fuselage band, and the fact that the bird is photographed during relief operations within Pakistan last year.

    Three possibles come to mind.

    1. Afghanistan.

Mi-17s operated within this countrys anti-narcotic force are painted grey, though the fuselage band would be green/white/black if at all carried?

    2. Iran

The band shown is in this countrys colours, but the serial is wrong, plus iranian birds are painted in a desert or white scheme.

    3. UAE

My feeling leans here. The colour scheme matches the grey scheme being applied to their helis, and helis of their Police air wing sport a similar band along the lower fuselage.
Also, they were rumoured to have ordered some Mi-17s not long back. Question is, is this one of them?

Any ideas anybody?. Is my conclusion correct?

    Hind I.D Required…what Country?

Just found this image of a Mi-35P Hind- F at a russian overhaul facility owned by Mil.

I have not got a clue to whom it belongs.

Clues are found in the form of a 4-digit serial painted in black-8924. And the Hind behind is an Indian example…so a date is possible.

The scheme is quite temperate, a green and tan…so africa?

    Congolese?

    Over to you guys 🙂

BTW, the L-39 from Ghana carries serial G901, not 6801..

    a huge thanks!!![/QUOTE]

Hehe, the problem with the internet is that after a while searching useless leads, the eyes start to swell, and you end up looking like this little fella on the right- 😮 😀

Glad you liked the pics 🙂

    I don’t know where to begin……

First of all, THANKS, for all the great photos.

Secondly, where in the world did you get all those pictures? Do you just happen to have a huge library of Huey pictures on your computer?

    You a Huey fan?

Gauntlet thanks for your picture too. It was a particularly beautiful image.

No need to say thanks, since i have a collection of over 10,000 military and Goverment aircraft just sitting on my Harddrive doing nothing…and if i cant share with other enthusiasts, then whats the point 🙂

Most are acquired through the internet, others from books, Magazines ect, and quite a few more from other enthusiasts around the globe.

Back to the Huey, i happily include myself within its fan club and, i would imagine its top of the list of many peoples fave Heli.

Lets hope many others follow up my effort, since my post was merely to show its worldwide usage. Many beautiful camo jobs have adorned these birds down the years, and many variants have been produced for a diversity of roles…so guys, get posting, cos this should, and can be a cool thread!
