Yes the Solent manual was indeed a find. Tell your friend to drop me a line.

Cheeky post – would you be interested in donating the Comet manual to the current cause of preserving Sagittarius at Lyneham?

That’s a shame. I’ve flown on her four or five times.

Hi, PM me as a good friend of mine is providing the hanger for the Bear and he might have some of the info you need.

Seeing that people are naming A/C that weren’t on the list I’ll opt for the P-61 Black Widow. It could outperform most single engined fighters and had legs to burn!

    Hi Paul,

Many, many thanks for the article. One of the members of another forum I am on is friends with the crew chief and he had not seen this article so I will forward it to him. Amazing amount of damage from that bird strike! That too was a hell of landing!.

    Cheers

    Hi Gary

I just did a trawl of the net and there are a few mentions of it, my memory is bad as it happened nearly three years ago!

    I also found this interesting

    Hello Paul,

Any sources where I could do the looking? Or just the usual check on all the news sites?

    Cheers

A friend of mine found the you tube video and here is the link

Without actually looking it up I believe one of his wheels fell off on take off so he only had two options, bang out or land on the belly. I think it was last year.

Do you know when and where it occured? Also why his gear wasn’t able to deploy? It is a hell of a photo!

    Gary,
The Aussie F-111 was actually landing. A very good landing too – considering he had no undercarriage to land with!!

I believe it’s called political will. The first foreign war the US fought was against the Barbary Pirates and it cost us a lot, both in gold and lives. But, after it was over they left us alone for over 200 years. I think it is time to get tough on them again and let them know that we will no longer tolerate that behavior. The problem is you have to kill them, and the politicians in the free world don’t like that option.

Many thanks for the heads up. I don’t think the owner has been up to it in at least three years. A waste of a great aircraft. Oh yes thanks for pointing out my typo! The finger strayed a little too far to the right on that one!

    Cheers
