Looks like the type used on the DH Gipsy / Chipmunk.
Thanks. Interesting given the later post.

Thanks. Appreciate that.
Thanks Smirky. The lack of a barrel would be the important point. That puts me at ease with regards to the law and owning this. Much appreciated. ;O)
Very useful thanks 🙂
Thanks all for taking the time to comment 🙂
I thought I read somewhere that they were used from Mark IX onwards but I’m no expert. The Pilot’s Notes would be the place to start I guess as there’s usually a panel layout photo in each. I certainly have one for my Seafire XV panel project. Spitfire panels are so variable when you start to look at them and restored examples have to be viewed with an open mind! Supercharger panels were gone by the time of my Seafire XV and again, the Pilot’s Notes would be a good start for that one.
Thanks Bruce.
Interesting. Even 3mm aluminium is way off then! I’m currently looking at laser etching the labels. I just need to establish the correct content for them all (not easy from available photographic material).
I’m looking at some cable from a military jeep spares supplier which seems very similar to the cable connecting my gunsight to its plug so will probably go with that.

Anne,
Wow …………………………………. thank you so much for this!
What a piece of history this turns out to be! Frankly, I’m gobsmacked.
I also had no idea that there was a variant of the Seafire with counter-rotating props which gives me nice line of further research.
I have always been quite resistant to the idea that this prop was Spitfire related but Seafire, and the last in the line!
Again, thank you so much. You’re a total diamond. I just need to figure out now how best to fix this on the wall in my studio.
John
Thanks Mike,
That’s intriguing. Forgive my ignorance but how does one tell LH from RH rotation with these?
John
Afternoon folks,
My attention has returned to this mystery wooden prop again. I thought that posting some pics might prompt some folks to pass comment.
The prop is 146cm in length. The black paint looks original with a lot of wear and fine cracking. The yellow paint at the tip looks good but there seems to be some rough restoration or field repair at the very tip.

Having another look at it, the codes on the base of the boss are:
RA101**R (** looks like either 55 or 35 as only the bottom half of each number is visible)
JP247587

There is a small metal data plate attached which has what looks like RA1341* (* is possibly an obscured number)

Any ideas? I’d love to know what type of aircraft this was likely fitted to.
Thanks in advance.
John
