Grip
Hi
AH 8376 is for Sea Fury and Seafire and it may be my eyesight but when you look at the close up pictures it looks suspiciously like the grip has been rebound with string, albeit quite well done.
BS
Air raid sirens
Hi
I work at Fords Dagenham and to date have found two 415 volt(big ones) WW2 air raid sirens high up in the roof.Wether there were more who knows but the building where i work is about 2.5 million square feet so perhaps you might get an idea from that:confused:

Mark 111 Goggles
Hi
You could try Dave Farnsworth at the Historic Flying Clothing co but the prices are not cheap.Failing that ebay is your best bet.Air Ministry marked ones are expensive but you could probably pick up a pair of Canadian marked ones for less money. They are exactly the same except for the markings on the strap.
Good luck 🙂
Brake lever
Hi
For a non flying displayed control yoke.

Pilot Equipment
Hi
Well ebay is the obvious starting place or he could try Dave Farnsworth at the Historic Flying Clothing Company but i have to warn you that flying clothing prices have reached jaw dropping levels.
For example a complete 41 pattern Mae West with all the bits in clean condition would now be about £750-£850 and Dave just sold a wartime dated seat type harness for £2250!

43/43 period flying clothing
Hi
The sort of equipment a Spitfire pilot would be wearing circa 42/43 would be Battle dress,41 pattern Mae West,36,39,Nuffield or 43 pattern boots(fighter pilots didn`t tend to wear the 40 or 41 pattern boots as a rule),C type helmet(externally wired),Mk vii goggles,E* or G type oxygen mask,41 pattern gloves and a pilot type parachute harness.
Obviously this equipment depends on how early in 1942 and how late in 1943we are talking about. Also equipment from earlier in the war continued to be used if preferred by the wearer(for example pictures of pilots wearing early B type helmets late in the war are quite often seen).Oxygen equipment tended to be upgraded quickly for obvious reasons.
I hope this is of some help.

Defiant
An airworthy Defiant is something i would definitely pay to see:rolleyes:
Defiant Columns
I live in hope of one day finding a call light box(or two).I`m a firm believer in the mantra of if you wait long enough one will turn up.This has proved to be the case with flying clothing to the point where i have virtually everything i want. The only thing is you have to be prepared to pay when that item turns up.
For example,if you had told me a few years ago i would end up with two Defiant columns i probably would`nt have believed you.
Perhaps i need to go to a few more aerojumbles!
Gun button
I can beat that,i saw a Defiant gun button at Beltring for £235:eek:
Another Defiant column
Further to the above post, here are a couple of pictures of my other Defiant column with the Mag alloy grip.
Please excuse the lack of carpet as i haven`t finished decorating my toy room yet.

Mae West`s
Hi
There is a data base at Hendon and if you tell them what you are looking for they can look up the relevant AP`s that you require. There is no list of AP`s as such.
The thing to remember with AP`s is that they were a working reference and as items were updated the old AP`s were deleted and so it`s amazing that any of the old ones survived at all.
They have lots of AP`s on all sorts of things(i know because when i worked there i was responsible for catalogeing the AP`s)but they even have AP`s which have not been accessioned into the collection and therefore cannot be viewed by the public. One that springs to mind was a whole volume on gunsights.
If you only require a small amount of information you can email them and they can photocopy it for you(for a small charge)but if you want a lot of information then a visit is worth the trouble as you can look at a lot more stuff.
I have lots of copies of AP`s but unfortunately for you they are all on WW2 flying clothing and equipment.
Good luck with your search, from memory i`m sure they have what you require.

Mae West
Hi
If you contact Hendon`s research department they will have AP`s on the Mae West`s you are interested in.If it`s a lot of information you require a pre-arranged visit would be the best idea.:D
