Anyone else hear banjo’s??? :diablo:
Do we know where he’s going to be based out of??? I know for a while he was talking about Hurlbert and the sneaky-freaky guys, but I dunno where he actually got assigned to?
Matt
It would be cool to see how the Aussies could develop the B-52 into a seriously kick ass MPA… 😉

Even if it is the best match for mission requirements.

Nice fairy tale. The SR-71 is unable to take-off with full fuel-load at all. 50% is typical. 😀
It is in need of a top-up at height always. Do the dipsy to pass the transonic and the propulsion-system does spring into life. 😎
No fairy tale, fill the tanks @ top-up. Of course, they figured out pretty quickly that it added only ~50 miles of range.
Matt
In any event, it would be stupid to sell it as scrap when you can truck it to the desert.
When has THAT had anything to do with what the government does??? 😉
Matt
Well, the Su-34 is said to have the RCS of a cruise missile. So go figure.
BOMARC, or KS-1???
:diablo:

PS: How come when it comes to discussion about need for “stealth” to deal with threats such as Iran (with presumption they ever get s300) everybody starts crying for more F22, as only possible answer… nobody seams to include in their “analysis” those big 2x Billion a pop thingies at Whitemen AFB… or are we going to turn those into modern art pieces and stick em in CBDs of major cities.
While I don’t disagree, I think the F-22 (and/or JSF) do have advantages in response time. If an asset is already in theater, or even already in flight, responding to a ToO becomes that much quicker and easier. I just don’t see the USAF forward basing B-2’s, and routine patrols with the Bat are a non-starter.
Matt
I’m not criticising the purchase – what I’m doing is attempting to justify my belief that an F-35 holds little to no advantage over a contemporary aircraft except in the range/payload stakes (and the advantages here are marginal when compared with Su-34’s, not that the RAAF would ever consider those) when it comes to maritime strike…
What you meant to say :diablo: :diablo: I still think Oz is shooting themselfs in the foot buying anything with less range then the Pig, the “Tyranny of distance” cuts both ways. 🙂
Matt
50% is the figure that always gets bandied about, have no idea if it’s accurate or if the number has changed signifinctly in recent years.

“what have the Romans ever done for us!?!?!???”
“I was wrong when I said it would take one hundred years do dig out of Shawshank. Andy did it in twenty.”
“I’m looking for a shrubbery… A nice one, but not too expensive”
“I’m about to insert this cap into the primer. If the brass touches the side, we’ll both be the last poeple we ever see.”
“A towel??? Whatever do I need that for???”
obligitory aviation reference “She’ll go faster”

Not as bad as a 2 seat F-32 would’ve been though.
Less ugly then a F-32 is like being the tallest midget in the room.
It might be true, but you’re still short :dev2:
Matt
Congrats!!!!
The first 2 months are the hardest, after that you adapt to stumbling about in a grey haze… “Yes dear”, “Of course, Dear”, “what time is it1?!??” and “where are those damn diapers???”
:dev2:

There were some but I don’t think any got much beyond paper studies. A couple Boeing designs and one LM come to mind. I’ll post some pics tomorrow if someone hasn’t beat me to it.
I’m surprised that a F-111 wasn’t considered, the Navy had done the ground work…
