You’ve obviously never heard of Goalkeeper 😉
I had heard of it, but for some reason had it as a autofiring 3″ cannon, not a GAU-8.
Ok, Disregard my last transmission 😮 😮
Matt
In that case a GAU-8 on an M-1 chassis would get my vote.
Hello, my name is Sargent York Junior… :diablo:
I agree that a land based GAU-8 would have lot of uses, but I’m not sure it would be nimble enough to intercept artillery shells. I’ve seen a display GAU-8, and the sheer length and mass seems to defeat any kind of CWIS operation.
Now, as a direct fire support weapon where a tank shell is overkill/ undesireable, and a 25mm Bushmaster isn’t enough, I think the grunts would love to have an Avenger at thier back, no matter what chassis it was on (M1,Bradley,Stryker)
Matt
But that brings up another question. Is there a good RAM composite to make the shells from, for precision soft targets like a SAM site?
Matt

ok, whats the story with this varient???
double cockpit- Trainer? sure an odd configuration for a trainer, though…
To do what?
Just have fun, SU-47
Sneak in and out, ninja style??? F-22
Mud moving? F/A-35
Matt
LockMart’s already been down that path with the ‘alternative’ D-21 studies. 😀
So there WERE studies to turn the D-21 into a strike option???
Cool, always wondered why they didn’t at least study it.
Can you give any more details or sources (That WON’T get you fired??? 😉 )
thanks,
Matt
According to an article in C4ISR Journal, RATTLRS was in fact developed in some way from the J-58. Prolly explains why it appears that Lockheed is trying to turn an SR-71 nacelle into a missile 😀
Hell, I thought they were dusting off the D-21 :diablo: :diablo:
Matt
You need four more buddy-buddy JSF to hand the shooters their drinks on the way back. And probably you don’t want the Airbus tanker(“s” – one is not enough) to loiter in the vector of the attack as not to tip off the target that something might be on the way.
I’m probably missing something obvious but: Once the KF-35’s (sorry, couldn’t resist :dev2: ) bingo, why can’t they scoot back to one of the Airbus’s, top off, and reposition in time to refuel the strikers?
Matt
how about a tribute to Admirals of old?
The USS Bull Halsey sounds awesome, or the Halsey class carriers.
I like that idea alot better then America.
Halsey class sure has a ring to it :D:D
I vote for America.
America-class just has a ring too it.
Another Lady Lex would work too.
Matt
You judging what is intelligent is like Ray Charles judging a beauty contest.
All models, present WRISTS 😉
(To the non-US movie watching public, I appologize.)
Matt
The aspect ratio looks lower than most aircraft but the MiG-21. I don’t see much efficient high lift devices with it, other than forward and rear flaps which tend to be standard with most wings anyway.
Probably talking about the BLCS system.
Matt
The Reserves might, but I think the frontline Scooters were all retired by the mid 90’s.
Matt
The SDB range is more than 50 nautical miles when launched at 40,000 feet at Mach .95.
Quick question-
is that range from a straight and level drop, or ballistic “lob-toss” trajectory?
Matt
No doubt it would have been a expensive project, but the sheer idea of a near Mach 3, near 3000mi range cruise missile should have been worth pursuing.
The info over on Andreas Parch’s site shows the D-21 as somewhat heavier, but, since the D-21 was cleaner, I think the B-52’s range would have been similar.
I think the D-21’s nav. system and lower RCS would make the biggest difference. The ability to route around holes in the AD network could be very useful, either in a surgical strike, or as the first wave of a massive attack.
