I am proud to point out that the chap featured heavily in this film, Alan Radford is my grandfather, with his ex-wife June, also in the film being my grandmother. 😀
Alan is still alive and kicking, though sadly June died last year.
As you can imagine, Concorde is well and truly in my blood! Proud is not strong enough a word to express what I feel about my grandfathers involvement. I am so lucky to be able to watch this to remind myself of not only the part he played, but also what we were once capable of.
Oh and the F111’s – I used to get to sit in the escape modules as a young lad while Alan was on the team doing the servicing. Happy happy memories!
I’ll happily second Matts sentiments, Graham and the guys were brilliant and obviously passionate about the Spit – he nearly turned me! (into a pistonhead from a jet junkie – just to clarify!)
And the old girl herself..simply awesome! If you haven’t seen her do her thing, you really need to to make your life complete!
Timbo (the only other South Westerner in the village!)
Very nicely put Pete! 😎
I didn’t think private parties could bid – do you not have to be a VAT registered company any longer?
None at all sadly.
The closest we have at current is WK163 at Coventry, grounded pending sourcing a good Avon 109 with necessary RR documentation. Not as easy as it sounds unfortunately.
Ex 39 (1 PRU) Sqn PR9 XH134 is still kept undercover at Kemble pending a possible return to flight programme by the owner Midair(SA) having been ferried by air onto site in June 2006. It’s a definite possible!
Other than that, we, ground run and fast-taxi WT333 at Bruntingthorpe, and keep XH135 in a live (currently static but with the possibility of taxiable in the future) at Kemble.
All sonewhat ground-bound until further notice!
Do any of the “glsss” noses survive (unattached to aircraft) ?
If so, are any for sale?
Not that I would pay what the owners probably want for them, but it might make a nice bit to have. 😀
Sure do, they survive in reasonable numbers. We on the WT333 team have a boxed new one available, feel free to PM if interested, they do fetch reasonable money 😉
There is actually a used one on a certain auction site at present in fact, currently at £60. They are a surprisignly large item though, be sire to make space in your shed!
Some of us are still starting! 😀
WJ874 is indoors, bloomin’ great news! 😀
As for WK163, a team has been assembled to assess her current condition and act upon those findings accordingly, with a view to bringing her back to an airworthy state. (I believe WJ874 is included in this arrangement too)
I am merely the messenger on this and am passing on what little I have heard from contacts on the inside forming part of this team – don’t quote me on any of the above!
It’s all gotta be steps in the right direction though.
Great work on the Shack though, how many of us young’uns (ish!) can say “I changed a dirty great Griffon on a Shackleton today”? 🙂
Thought it was a good day all round and great to meet up again with a few Forumites.
Personally got a pair of ID switchboxes (thanks Air Ministry) and an oxygen economiser (TT18Timbo). Thanks to Stacey24b for pointing out the Chippy GA drawing for a pound 😀 and to David Collins for providing the wheels to get me there.
john
Great to meet you today John (and actually put a face to a name..we must have met so many times unwittingly before!) and glad you relieved us of that economsier!
Today proved better for “networking” than for sales/purachases, but that’s by no means a bad thing. Recovering from the 4:30 am reveille on the other hand has proved to be a slightly bad thing! 😮
Merry Christmas Bruce! 😀
Ooooh those are gorgeous!! Stripey Canberra’s are to die for..I am just itching to get WK126 put back together after seeing those…not 7 Sqn I know, but FRADU is close enough!
I
Keeping with the Canberra theme, rather like Baz’s earlier Shackleton post I was undecided wether to post this one of WJ688. It brings me happiness and sadness.I can remove pic and post if desired
James – that’ll be WJ866 😉
Great to hear stroies about the old girl – have very fond memories of working on her on 39, thankfully several years before the terrible crash.
Thanks James, got your PM and headed straight there – some smashing shots!
Cheers Jase, that’d be great! I’ll head over to the facebook page now..I’ve got a bottle of Hobgoblin on the go so that should steady the nerves!
I’ve probably mentioned before, but if you ever fancy seeing ‘135 up close and personal, just drop me a line.
hehe, oh how us liney’s on 39 spent our time effectively, learning new skills and making the most of our very limited resources…like killing bugs with Avpin!
I think me and Shane Piper used most remaining 39 Sqn “C” stores making Chief Tech John “Coney” Powell a leaving gizzit..it’s a wonder there was anything left to maintain the jets! 😮
Would there be any chance of emailed copies of your lovely PR9 pics for the XH135 archive folder Jase?
