    Ooooh that was cruel!! :diablo:

All of a sudden the Canberra afficionado’s of the forum felt their hearts skip a beat..nicely done! 😀

What a great cause though, let’s hope the pleasure flights go some way to helping WK163 and WJ874 in their plight to stay alive..

Well done for highlighting this Will, I like your style!

“VX185 made its record-breaking double crossing of the Atlantic on 26 August 1952. It was flown from RAF Aldergrove (Ireland) to Gander and back by Wing Commander RP Beamont and crewed by Peter Hillwood and Dennis Watson. The flight took 10hours 3minutes 29.28seconds at an average speed of 411.99 mph”

Quoted from the late Les Bywaters site..

Apparently the nose now exists over at East Fortune..a trip there is in order I reckon!

Clearly port wing. Longer edge of lights goes along wingspan on Canberra – topside camo is dark grey, underside is light aircraft grey, topside wraps round onto underside. How can this be such a long discussion!!

Gosh yes, an actual interesting discussion a whole page long has broken out about the wholly uninteresting and unfashionable Canberra on this here spitfire forum..what were we thinking…

For the record and partly out of wicked bloody mindedness just to keep this thread alive, I’m sticking with Port 😀

Keeping the Canberra dream alive Matt, nice work!

Great line-up, great looking paint finishes (did they have some help from the RAF on that do you know?)

Three big cheers to Aeroventure for doing such a fine job!

Sorry, it was thoughtless to say thoughtless. I was tired!

Thank you Bob, very much appreciated – same went for me I think..tired and overly defensive. All’s well that ends well! 🙂

No throat jumping intended, post modified as such.

Just don’t want people thinking we don’t take the the paying public into consideration when parking.. As Faith No More once said…We care a lot!

I now have a large portfolio of pics thanks to a lot of people – some make me shudder. However, most are not from the spectator area as the Canberra was rather thoughtlessly parked blocking the view up the runway. Thus, I suspect many videos show the run up to about the first 1000 Ft part of the run, but nothing after. I am in touch with a few people who were further up the runway and who have video.

With all due respect Bob, the Canberra was not parked “thoughtlessly” and I find such a comment a little insulting considering the circumstances. The aircraft was moved to the spot we were allocated as soon as possible so as not to impede on the Victors timeslot, but the parked vehicles prevented us moving any futher forward. Please do think about making comments like this as I feel such things can be a tad damaging if taken as fact.

Just to re-iterate, every care was taken to ensure the aircraft was parked safely and within the instructions given to us, whilst trying not to compromise the enjoyment of any paying visitor and we would never wish to spoil any view through thoughlessness, carelessness or otherwise.

    Regards, Timbo

Couldn’t agree more – what a wonderful day and the perfect way to celebrate this milestone in aviation in our own little but perfectly formed way.

I for one am so proud to have been a part of todays celebration, and count myself ridiculously lucky to be in a position to be a part of keeping a grand old aircraft alive in tribute to this great design.

I’ll be grinning for weeks..despite that dodgy photo of me caressing a triple breech firing cap! 😮

Sounds like a good idea in principle – basically a civvy version of the Line training Flight I went through in trade training at Cosford..

    My immediate thoughts however are:

Assuming first you are talking it about it being carried out up your neck of the woods..

Most operators (myself included) are having to perform their hobbies (let’s not forget that is all they are after all) with a very minimal budget..the course initially sounds like it would be an extra outlay which would need to be found, particularly with regard to travel and accomodation. I for one would struggle to find the money to commit to such a scheme.

Secondly, most operators fit the hobby into their spare time, so I imagine timings being an issue. Again, speaking from personal experience, I could only manage 1 day of a weekend, as the other day I need to catch up on domestic duties after spending the first on my hobby!

Lastly, and this may not be case at all actually, just an observation – would hobbyists be all that interested in making their fun, enjoyable passtime a more official, trained and almost certificated project? I think I might not want to get too deep into courses and things and would rather just enjoy learning “on the hoof”. That said, I have had the RAF version of this training so might be biased in that I wouldn’t want to re-tread old ground. I therefore cannot speak for others and offer these comments purely as my inital thoughts.

I can certainly see the possible benefits though, I’m am definitely not knocking your idea 🙂

There’s something highly disturbing to the Canberra nut about that sequence of shots, Keith, although they are pretty unique, so thanks for sharing. What is equally interesting is the second shot, where the Karinga damage is shown – the entrance hatch appears to be on the port, not starboard side, something I have never seen before. Was this a local mod to the B.20?

    Steve

Think it might be that the image has been flipped/mirrored..

You can see that the direction of the camoflage changes in the second pic 😉

As you rightly say though Steve..not a pretty sight for a CanMan!
