Many thanks to team WT333 for your help
All the best Matt
Always a plaeasure chaps, great to catch up with you and Sean again we’ll get that equipment hatch cover sent out soon as.. It was in my bloomin bag all along 🙁
Canberra Loving!
Slightly off topic, but I just had to make the most of this sudden spurt of Canberra interest, as our venerable yet much igonored “Britains First” seems to be getting a raw deal compared to certain triangular and eliptical equipment..so, without further ado, may I remind you of the existence of our rather gorgeous raspberry ripple adorned lady, Canberra B(I)6/8 (Mod) WT333at Bruntingthorpe 😀
Please feel free to follow my signature link below to get a feel for what we’re doing – and remember, we can’t do it without your support!
Okay, speech over – thanks for listening!
On behalf of the Treble Three Team (hope you don’t mind me making this blatant plug chaps!)
No, absolutely not…definitely something other than that..wholly un-Glosterish..Ahem.. 😮
Cracked in record time..?
Nice one Pagen..over to you!
Ah so close! Kinda chuffed that I got that far though! 😀
Mine is rather easy I’m afraid, I don’t have much of an archive, so here goes..
I’m going with Fiat G-49-1 with an Alvis Leonides lump up-front…?
Worth a shot
60th Anniversary of the English Electric Canberra 1949-2009
Beat me to it ya fiend
Wouldn’t it be nice to see 2009 also mark the year of the return to flight of a privately ownwed Canberra 🙁
I can dream
Towards the latter days of it’s operational life, it could be said that not one entire Canberra was the same full stop! We operated a mere 7 aircraft on 39Sqn during my time (5 PR9’s and 2 T4’s) and each had it’s own particular quirks due to the age and therefore different “owners” (RAF, FRADU, AHQ etc)and Mod states of the aircraft throughout their careers (plus local Mods occasionally had to be carried out due to lack of available spares, sometimes involving donor airframes preserved in museums – Cosfords XH171 being one such “christmas tree”)
And as for TT.18’s, the FRADU examples had their very own special chapter in the AP101B to account for Navy changes – dare say the T22’s were subject to the same.
Just realised, not in any way related tp the original question – apologies! I get excitable when I see the word Canberra 😀
Interesting that you mention “what people would like to see/hear“..
I for one like to be given the opportunity to hear the sounds that aircraft types that have long since been tethered made whilst seeing them aloft on film – a prime example being the famous Gloster Javelin “bluenote”. We are able to see most types preserved on the ground so can easily get a feel for how they looked whilst still operational, but the sounds are something which I feel are often overlooked.
Hope this is of use,
Cheers, Timbo
Aaaah!
Hi Steve,
I think maybe you have answered a question I was going to ask on the modern Military section.. There has been a massive amount of military jet activity over Newent on the Glos/Herfordshire border this last week, mainly night-time fighter chases (between 6 and 10pm!) but alas, it has been too dark to make out shapes – all I see are little red flashing lights chasing each other around the sky making a bloody great racket! I have been wondering what the deal was, but I’m guessing it may well be these Fairford guests, unless anyone knows differently..?
Anyway, excellent shots, really good to see some activity at Fairford – wish I could get down there myself..work gets in the way!
It would be a dream to see canberra WJ874 flying along side WK163….. does anyone know the lastest on her 😉
I’m sharing that one for sure…Spent many a happy day as ground crew on the old “blue bomber” on 39 Sqn taking her around the airshow circuit :p
Those really were the days!
Hopefully the following:
Canberra WK163 – Back on the circuit
Meteor T.7 WA591 – 2009 maybe a bit early.
I’m liking your wants list Nige..The more straight-wing twin jet action the better I say!
I spot a Vulcan cockpit and a Meteor too.
Indeed you do! Vulcan B2 XM569 and Meteor T7 WF784, both Jet Age Museum storage until such a time as a new site can be found for the dormant museum.
the Canberra TT.18 WK126 is ex Jet Age (Long Term Loan), now privately owned – watch this space 😉
Apologies for stealing the thread wcfcan – it’s just not often I see anything local appear here!
Canberra spotted!
Aaahh, if you look EXTREMELY closely centre left in Chinook shot number 3, my old dear friend WK126 can be seen lurking in the background with a green cover over her canopy 😀
Nice to see some shots of a local airfield, Staverton can porvide some nice little gems from time to time
Also known as servicing lamps by chance? If so, then the Victor was liberally outfitted with them.
Yes indeedy!
The possibilities are endless 😀
XA903
Do the mortal reamins of Blue Steel trials ship, B1 XA903 at Wellesbourne Mountford count?
Was given a fascinating and much appreciated tour of this cracking cockpit by her owner last weekend, who incidentally is doing a really great job of piecing back together this very rare old bird 😀
