ropes
wow very nice on all accounts! I agree the great unwashed public do take some looking after but do reconsider the ropes and barriers thing! It just looks so much better without ropes and barrriers in the way! as you say it needs someone there at all times though and thats a pain.
I have a car restoration shop at Infineon Raceway CA and you should try being here on NASCAR week, I stepped out for a minute and when I came back there were people sitting in cars having there pictures Taken! even one in an E-Type tub up on stands…………..Rednecks………….
thanks, glad you like it.
as you say, no barriers does help with photo opportunities but it does present other problems…….we must be a little more vigilant i think andd post some big notices about.
people just don’t seem to have respect for effort or other peoples property sometimes.
then on the flip side you do get the odd polite person who does ask and genuinely takes an interest, you don’t so much then, it makes it seem worth it then.

fun
Chears for all that Philip. Considering what you started with what you have now justifies your hard work and expenditure as she looks the dog’s danglies. Your mate looked like he was having fun, got to be a terrific grin factor in turning what you got into something that hairy.
I don’t mind you being vague as I guessed it would be something like that as they have a rarity value that makes the purchase a little bit more than your average family saloon.
Cheers Mike, sometimes you just have to step backwards a bit to see. Being so close to a project sometimes it is easy not to see the overall effect, same with the Beech.
Ben certainly enjoyed it, it is so much fun if somewhat hard on the arms to steer.
i now consider the krad like a pension fund.

hugging
Oh my God! It looks fantastic! Well done!
And that Beech, I’m sorry, considering the ‘touching’ posts re. museums above (which I wholeheartedly agree with), but I want to hug it. It is so beautiful.
thanks, cool eh
re hugging, clean hands only, no drooling or anything else please
Hi Mike
well the answer to question 1 is very convoluted, it invloves a childhhod dream, sale of a house, a blonde, then the sale of the house, & a man who was selling his collection of 1000 ground dug german steel helmets to finance his collection of german military vehicles.
2) a red rusty lump……..literally, i will post a picture
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
3) the restoration of these sort of things seems to be never ending. there always seems to be something to do…….only last week i was wiring a wartime pattern ignition switch and fitting a wartime notek light switch………basically it took about 3 and a half years
4) weight well approx 1.5 metric tons, here is a link for a bit more info
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SdKfz_2
5) well should i answer the un asked question…….the red rusty lump cost a 5 figure sum and the restoration another 5 figure sum.
value 6 figures
sorry to be vague but you get the idea
50mph across a ploughed field, here is a vid of my mate driving it

hope that helps
grasshopper
On the other hand: a kid who was walking across the mainspars of our Grasshopper one airshow day got the woppiest whack I’ve ever seen a parent give to his child (after I had already less than gently knocked him off our wing). Damage surprisingly was minimal (to the aircraft, that is).
should have hooked him up to the bungee, little treasure.
astounding, total lack of respect…….big girls eh……..bless um
really annoying
I know exactly what you mean with punters not respecting the exhibits, we always have this problem at OW while putting aircraft away and no matter where you go with MVs someone always wants to climb on them. We stopped at South mimms services last year on the way to Beltring went in for a bite to eat and to use the facilities, came out to find a couple of young kids literally hanging off My WC54 trying to pull bits off with their parents grinning and taking pictures. The parents were very upset when I asked them which was their car and promptly sat on the bonnet, and even then they couldn’t understand what I was getting at. The pictures of your display look fantastic would love to come up and look sometime, when is the next open day?
it is really annoying isn’t it and some of these folks are just so think it is astounding. They just do not comprehend how much effort and time as well as money is involved in these things.
glad you liked the display.
not sure when the next running day is, i suspect end of august but can’t be sure.
next running day, 24th August

someone told me about 500…………out of 10,000 plus manufactured during the war that is a big percentage when compared to panzers like the tiger or panther.
although 500 is the figure quoted, i do have some reservations it is accurate, my guess would be nearer 100.
even so they are very desirable little vehicles and reach silly money nowadays. When i compared it to a ferrari i was referring to its value, same ballpark, and i could probably swop it for a ferrari and get a shed load of cash as well.

Most of the time there is someone standing with each project watching and answering questions, trouble is occasionally they get bored and wander off at which point people come and do the touchy feely thing…….spotted 1 chap running his greasy paws down the side of the silver T-6, i don’t understand what they get from it……..wet pants maybe
barriers next time
thanks about the beech….it did look nice in the sunshine

fencing
Whilst the vast majority of folk attending these sort of events are only too delighted that we are allowed to get up so close to these exhibits unfortunately you get the odd one or two that have no comprehension of respecting other peoples property.. Maybe a little fencing around it next year?
yes you are right, some big notices and some fences next time.
most people were happy to look and ask questions, it was a minority but nonetheless very annoying.
i am sure a lot of people wanted to do that, good job i kept the key in my pocket
lets hope it is blue with yellow spots…………that will get tongues wagging over and over again.
some people here rightly praised the efforts to preserve the jet, it doesn’t matter a jot what colour it is…………bear in mind it took a lot of rubbing down and preparation by lots of people and basically took 1 bloke 13 days to spray it………remember how hot it was and how much effort it takes to work safely at height in a protective suit.
if it is historically accurate great, if not so what, at the very least it will survive longer than if nothing had been done.
lets move on
museum
Does the museum open again on Sunday for the new season?
If you do have a good one!! 🙂
saturday
no it isn’t, it is common sense
buy something for £100 sell it for £20
economic sense???
I am also a businessman…..my bank manage would have me in his office pdq if i did that sort of thing.
I am not missing the point at all
I am currently involved with aircraft restoration http://www.beechrestorations.com, it is my aircraft and i know how much is involved, i know the amounts of money i have to put in to my relatively small project.
I know how difficult it is to keep it going, i also know that if it doesn’t pay its own way then it will have to go, end of story.
I do not have rose tinted glasses or think oh well, someone might give me a shed load of money, lets blunder along until that happens, if they did i could take a chunk of it and stick it in my back pocket, ask for a shed load more, charge a small amount for a show and not cover my costs.
my mortgage provider would soon be on my back.
I have spent many thousands of pounds so far on what you see on that site, MY MONEY.
Yes i have also had to raise finance and this has been done by syndication. That is not begging, it is sound financial procedure. None of than money went into my bank acount as a salary either.
donate some money to beech restorations and you will see how you are treated.
missing the point indeed, if anyone is sir it certainly is not me
