begging bowl
In response I point the learned gentleman to Exhibit A: http://www.site.vulcantothesky.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9267 🙂
You don’t live in England then, as the big ones don’t start till the middle of May.
So even though it’s not actually costing you a penny, you think they should just give up as it’s unsustainable in your eyes.
Thank goodness myself and other like minded folk don’t think that way and we’re going to see the only airworthy Vulcan at shows again this year. 😀Of course, I expect you’ll be turning your back on it in disgust, as in your world it shouldn’t be up there flying anyway. 😉
give it another few months and the begging bowl will be out again…..it will be even slower to fill up because there are a lot of people out there who also see it as emotional blackmail.
I do not pretend to know the ins and outs of the whole 558 farce but i can see that it is being mis-managed. I am not alone in this view either.
i am not a doomster, i have never been a doomster. having 558 flying is a good thing but lets get real…only charging a small percentage of cost for a show….recipe for administration in any organisation…..
it seems anyone thinking with their head is labled a doomster.
interesting comparison and a good case for them to pack up and go home as the charitable donations are not sustaining the project now, nor will they ever do so.
unsustainable is what i said from day 1.
plt
management!!!???
You are correct David. I attended a lecture given by David Stone, chief engineer, last November (there’s a thread on it if anyone wants to do a search). He said the cost of doing a display was close to £29000 but they charge £8000, still quite a fee for a small show to find.
the donated money would soon be eaten up losing £21,000 every time
all goes to prove it is unsustainable.

It’s already in my Xmas stocking. 😀
I think it was more along the lines of being preserved in a museum.
I don’t think Duxford was specifically part of the deal and nothing has been set in stone regarding where 558 ends up.If TVOC ends up in administration then 558 could end up being sold off as an asset to just about anyone with enough money.
i suspect there might be a few people still owed money and may have charges over the aircraft……….just a guess mind
all of the surviving airframes went to china you know….It is true, i have seen pictures
some have been posted on here do a quick search.
James could pop over to bejing and measure one of those

Glad it got sorted ok Andy

Hi Andy
just wondering did you get the genny running ok in the end…………it is def only air in the system

smells of the old begging bowl again, didn’t take long did it.
They already looked stupid in a lot of people eyes and a fiasco like this does nothing for their cause………..it should have been nailed down months prior to committing to the show. The requirements of the permit (which they knew would run out) should have been controlled and implemented end of story. If it could not be achieved why waste fuel & time and money putting up the drivers in a hotel
i think they are just blundering about making themselves look really unproffesional and silly.
i guess i will be now accused of having a sour grapes attitude.
looking for a new home?
looking for a new home maybe
my word, was it really that long ago
