the beech 18 seen in the last pic of the first post just behind the Jap bomber later crashed into a bank in New York
20th May 1946 the New York Times reported the following. Below the Bank of Manhatten Building, thrusting more than 800’ into the murk there rained a shower of debris—an officers cap, a parachute & the wing of a plane. On the skyscrapers 58th floor lay the remains of an Army light Beechcraft transport and the bodies of it’s army pilot and 4 passengers.
It was UC-45F serial 44-47570 based at Newark NJ which was on it’s way home from Lake Charles Army Field. The Beech had tried to land at Newark but they were thwarted by fog. As they tried to locate the field they crashed into the 71 storey building and left a hole 20’ wide by 10’ high. One engine broke loose, bounced off a wall and then fell to the ground. No-one on the ground was injured but this accident led to a temporary restriction on IFR flight by all AAF C-45, AT-7 and AT-1 Beechcraft.
The building suffered an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.

“She is a vital part of Britain’s heritage”
doubt it
maybe in a few peoples eyes but now most people are trying to save their jobs and keep what little money they have in the bank………….for what good that does.

going right back to the earliest comments on here, Not very green, not sustainable, now add to the list the country is broke……….and it really isn’t realistic to expect the public to bail it out again when a few people are making a nice wedge out of it thank you very much…………I think lots of other deserving causes have lost any hope of seeing lottery money because of this farse.

Hi Philip
Happy to help with this request. Please drop me an email and I’ll see what I can do. Bear in mind that generally, the lectures/presentations on the Flight are restricted to our Winter months.

my thoughts, suspiscions and guesses are mine. What other people think has been made known here.
do you think this has all been handled well?
do you comment based upon reality or your heart?
I think getting the plane flying is an outstanding achievement and well done to the guys who achieved it……….. i have said all along sustainability is the key…..
companies in the real world would have called in the administrators before now……..not enough coming in to cover costs…………basic economics…………
my wild guesses don’t really come into it
no more comments from me………….i am going to watch what happens next………if it continues great.
Hello
I have taken over the role of Public Relations Officer at BBMF, RAF Coningsby and have been in post since June 08. Part of my responsibility is the BBMF website http://www.bbmf.co.uk. I am trying to make our “latest news” area on the site a little more interesting and would welcome any constructive comments any of you have! 🙂 I am trying to include more articles about the engineering elements of the Flight and more behind the scenes information. If you would like to see an article about a particular area of the Flight or have any comments to make on the website as a whole, please let me know.
Many Thanks
Yvonne. 😉
Hi Yvonne
I wonder if you could help me, I contacted bbmf a while ago about an evening lecture at the sywell aviation museum, northampton
she said about some sort of display but what was offered was very unclear.
Asked for clarification but no further responses.
Is an evening lecture on the bbmf something that could be offered to our museum

none of it ever does or never will hang together
they are not a transparent organisation, they want our money, they want every bodies money but they never say what for exactly……….I could take a wild guess though
in this economic clime when everyone is trying to pay their mortgages and hang on to jobs when companies are going bust all around them, do TVOC really think they are gonna be able to squeeze more money from an already over-squeezed public………if so then they are dreamers.
sustainability has always been the overriding issue in my mind.
They are in serious trouble but just won’t pull the stumps.
I think the asset, (558) should now be sold and all/any creditors be paid off.
TVOC are actually at present shown as a Non Trading Company, accounts are 193 days late!!!!
