    chinese stirling

Not the way I would put it.

There is a well known Stirling underwater, and whilst IIRC its in fresh water, its very deep – again IIRC 400m plus down – I dont think its been properly surveyed and even if it were, the cost of a recovery operation would be enormous I’m sure. The Stirling is helluva beast to bring up intact from that kind of depth.

    Never say never however.

The DH.9 at DX is proof of that – ie no-one knew of its /their existence. The Trenton Halibag shows it can be done. The 109E in Canada shows that these things can even be made airworthy.

One of the most exciting aspects of our hobby for me is learning of new discoveries year on year…

    TT

the chinese had them after the war you know….That is why there arn’t any about.

in fact i thik there is one in the new Mummy film……..the chinese removed 2 of the engines so it weighed a bit less and could fly higher.

Well our first talk for a number of years went very well last night. It was a very interesting talk with lots of detailed photographs of the restoration.

Smudger brought with him Ron Scott of the blenheim society who managed to sell a few bits and bobs

about 45 people attended, in some respects this is good for the first talk, but i was hoping for more.

did any forum members come……Some who said they would i know didn’t but heyho

anyway the next one is 14th July

Sledgehammers for tintacks by Steve Darlow.

Bomber command offensive against the V1’s……..looking forward to that one.

    more publicity nearer the time.

    taxi race

I like the idea of a race down the runway martin, at last, something our Jet Provost has a fighting chance against!!!!! And I can just see Adrian, poping over with the machine gun fitted, asking politly if he can borrow something, whilst looking at us through the sights!!! Never a dull moment at Bruntingthorpe!!!!!!!!!

    It will do 50mph.

    still up for it?

    steering

Excellent stuff! I’ve always wondered – does the steerable front motorbike wheel actually have any effect?!

the front wheel can steer but only very shallow turns. trying to turn 1.25 metric ton with it is not easy.

there are bars from the forks which pass through the front part of the hull and actuate levers which are in turn attached to drum brakes on the differential, thus when the handlebars are turned one of the track is braked thus turning the vehicle.

the front wheel also acts as a buffer when going up or down slopes or ditches

it is quite possible to drive it without the front wheel

    cheers

    for very practical reasons

it is easier to keep clean

oil sticks to matt paint, it wipes off gloss paint.

if you want to help clean an aircraft, (yours or someone elses) you will find it so much easier if it is gloss
