sunday
Weather held for the preparations today.
all the sheets are on the front of the hangar now and all cleaned up ready for the wet hoards.
Guys, our hangar is the only shelter on the field. maybe we should charge for entry, only joking.
Didn’t manage to get the secret aircraft rear fuselage over to the hangar nor the kettenkrad but the volpar beech was taxiied over first thing and is there ready.
Beech is uncovered and clean, come and see us.
might bring the secret fuselage and the kettenkrad over in the mornig if it ain’t persisting down.

p.s. hope you are enjoying the wedding ben.
forecast
latest forecast indicates rubbish weather on Sunday, we have almost made our decision to keep aircraft under cover.
On the same basis, kettenkrad will not be on display outside, maybe inside.
hangar will still be open so please come and see us but we might be building or erecting lights or concreting or painting.
pt
sunday
I believe you are correct
I should just say, if it is chucking it down with rain, all bets are off and the planes will stay under cover.
we will then caryy on building the hangar
wind
As far as I know wind is quoted as the direction it is comming from, hence a southerly wind is travelling from the south to the north.
Someone correct me if I am wrong please:confused: .
John.
I believe you are correct
wind
Haha, oddly enough just checked the forecast – wind and rain!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2477
Says the wind is ‘southerly’ but the arrow points upwards – does this mean the wind will be blowing towards the north (meaning won’t be too bad in the hangar) or it’ll be blowing towards the south (meaning it will)?
open end is facing north, thereore north wind blows straight in the front.
southerly we are ok.
rain
And I’m stuck at a cheesing &*$&*$^&*£%^*£%*£%^&£&£$%&^£$%&£$&£$&£$&£$&£$&£$$ wedding in Yorkshire for the weekend
😡 😡 😡
TT
yeah but you know what it is like at brunters on one of these days. Lovely all week (like now) then it blows a blue northern and rains. In which case you are in the best place.
think about bridesmaids underwear, that will keep you going.
p.s, forgot bus cards last night.

Starboard U/C
The “abandoned” Beech 18 refered to in RLangham’s post is of course N96240 (formerly G-AYAH), however it is definitely not abandoned.
It was damaged in the gales last winter when the starboard u/c partially failed. The owners I understand are looking for a replacement unit.
G-APDK
They are available in the states no problem, and Beech Restorations have offered theirs on loan but no-one has got back to us.
All we can do is try to help
RAF C45
Afternoon all, was wondering if anyone had any information on colour schemes worn by RAF Beech C-45’s (the military Beech 18) during WW2? I’ve only ever heard of these being used by South East Asia Command, and have seen a few photos of the one in Exeter in dark green/dark brown with sky blue undersides, but was wondering if anyone knew of any other colours they wore.
Cheers, Rob
I will bring the Beech bible with me on sunday.
you can borrow it but it is an expensive book so be very very careful with it

hangar damage
more damage in the winds of last week, all the tying off last saturday was ripped out so we had to do it all again.
put a cargo stap over the leading edge as suggested.
yesterday we cut all the steel to support the front.
we will get ther, it just takes time
no doubt we will be working in snow this weekend, won’t be the first time
On a nicer note, ran the Volpar Beech 18 yesterday. All ok apart from a fair amout of oil that fell out of the engines. Also put the differential into my kettenkrad.

Hangar Damage
Out of interest what type of hangar is this Philip and what is its history? It looks a bit like one that used to be at Cranfield with the late Sandy Topen and more recently Tim Manna. Others similar were at Thorpe Park in the 1970s/80s and I think the gliding club at North Weald still have one. Unless I’m mistaken, the structure is a 1970s approximate replica of a WW1 Bessoneau hangar. Good luck with repairing and maintaining it anyway!
exactly as TT says.
“Late Sandy Topen”, is that right, has he passed away, reason i ask is i knew him very well and our Beech 18 used to belong to him when at Cranfield.
