TT, they are slinging mud in entirely the wrong direction ain’t they mate
VX927/Albert Ross……….. for your info, Mr Walton is the nicest man you would ever wish to meet. His father bought the aircraft but then he sadly died.
David and the family have spent over £1million of their own money on the project and their return for years of hard work, lost revenue and lots of bad press is £125,000 scrap value. He wasn’t even asking for his million quid back when the asset “XH558” was aquired by the trust (VOC), he asked for half of his money back. eg sold it at a £500,000 loss
Very fair IMO
to get commercial rent on a hanger he effectively cannot enter anymore is very fair IMO.
quite frankly i think your comments are mis-directed
Also I did not know people could get in for a fiver, I know Denis and he is very helpful and i am sure if i spoke to him about a visit this would have been made clear to me but again that is not the point…………publicity lets people know
in summary, the problem is NOT with the Walton family, Denis, the volunteers, it stems from the top……………
All very well explained VTTSCM, this is exactly what people need to know before they put their hands in their pockets again.
One small point, I know Dennis will/can organise visits but how many others do. The public face says £50.00, that is what puts people off
Sorry but now i am showing my ignorance, what is “Wimbourne”
another aside, the £125,000 i believe was a figure (as you say independant) at scrap value only.
hase everyone forgotten, it ain’t £500,000
in some respects the £500k is the easy bit. It is the 100% uplift in contractors cost” that seems to have eluded a lot of the readeship, that is the big problem.
anyway, if someone wants to be actively involved in a vintage aircraft which will fly come and help me and Texantomcat build a T-6 and/or a Beech 18………and btw it will only cost them the value of a car sticker £1.00 or a patch £7.50 and maybe a pint or 2 at the end of a very productive, no-secretive day……we won’t keep asking the supporter club, nation, any tom dick or harry for more money every five mins.
come on, no money involved, just hard work…………… any body
the silence is deafening isn’t it Ben
XL391 you make sense but It ain’t just £500,000, “100% uplift on one major aspect of the contract and a further £500,000”
Last airshow didn’t have planning permission if i remember correctly.
Talk to David, he is usually open to reasonable suggestions………. it all depends upon how it is sold to him.
At the end of the day Marshalls are being paid by VOC, it should be VOC calling the shots not Marshalls. If it takes those sort of things to ensure VOC get enough money to pay Marshalls then they should not bleat.
Not sure a web cast would actually achieve much IMO……..it would only be viewed by a relatively small number of people on forums such as this…… He/they need to get much much wider publicity in the right money areas.
Just imagine the number of people who would attend a “Girls Aloud” charity gig held at Brunters in the hanger and how much money could be raised from it…..you never know, it might even tempt a major sponsor to come on board.
What other celebrities are into planes, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Gary Numan……. I dunno how many others but might be worth a bit of investigation.
just a few of my ramblings
I think the whole thing needs jazzing up to inspire and fire the imagination.
Throw the hangar doors open, have video huge screens, semi-clad dancing girls, pop groups, celebrities, fast cars, lots of flashing lights and noise. Kids love it, adults love it. Lots of upbeat noises
Get it published in all the magazines
Yes it might cost money but what sort of return is possible if you get the “nation” involved.
When i was in there, i remember long faces Not happy ones………….gloom doom and despondancy was everywhere and that is exactly what we are getting now.
come on fire it up chaps
Just a thought but would it not help to keep the project in the public eye, if the hangar doors were opened ‘just a little wider’ so that people who have contributed so far can come along and see how far things have progressed and see what their ‘hard earned ‘cash has paid for, without them having to pay ,what I think is a LOT of money, around £50.00 irc? for a guided tour ,that is ltd to certain dates at the mo.
I know the issue of the hangar being a ‘secure ‘area is one reason for this but now that the project is in dire straits maybe drastic measures are needed!
Why not do it conjunction with the Brunty open day, advertise it, get people there ,let us see what has happened so far and what can be again! 🙂Regards, Alan.
I agree. people who buy lottery tickets and who have donated money should be able to see what is going on for free. If it has been bought for the nation, the nation should have free access not £50.00 a squint.
I was in fact told by one of the VOC chaps during my meeting that the doors could NOT be left open. The drastic change in temperature would cause such a contraction/expansion in the airframe that it might jump off it’s jacks……..that was the point when we decided to leave and become masters of our own destiny.
going back to the original press release on the VOC website, it ain’t just £500,000 it is and i quote “100% uplift on one major aspect of the contract and a further £500,000”
so i am not sure but i don’t think an extra £500,000 is gonna solve the problem
At what point should any failing project actually draw the stumps, pack up and go home?
Companies continue to trade and run up debts with suppliers until they are forced by external pressures (like the bank) to pack it up. Suppliers lose their money and in this case all those who have donated money will lose their money when they finally decide enough is enough.
not sure who has title to the aircraft so i don’t know if it will belong to the HLF to dispose of when it all grinds to a halt.
Surely A decision can’t be far away…… No Sponsor, No reduction in bills, No choice IMO. Use what money they have left and bolt it back together. Give it back to the chaps who looked after it for years and were then told they couldn’t go near it again except with a broom in their hands. Just my thoughts.
thanks for the seats update alex, glad you had a nice time. Excellent work on the engine, at least some of us appreciate it isn’t only a coat of paint………….lots of very hard and expensive work to get them looking like this
philip
VOC live in the land of clouds and cuckoos
cloud cuckoo land
not in the real world IMO
If i was really cynical i could suggest Who’s “special account”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet there won’t be much money coming back to either the country or the membership.
I also wonder what the fallback position is………do they have enough money to make it into one big lump or is it gonna be left to others like the owners of the hanger to sweep up the very big mess these guys will leave behind them.
Turn it back over to those weekend amateurs who spent year after year looking after it very well IMO.
even if my hourly rate is inaccurate there are other things to bang into the equation.
expenses. Where do all those Marshalls employees stay overnight…….if they go home someone pays for the petrol. If they stay local, someone must pay for lodging and board.
We are a small engineering company who has to finance company cars for service engineers, we charge £60.00 per hour and we are cheap
moggy, exactly what i have been saying
they see a big pot of money, they want big pot of money, they get big pot of money, they go looking for another big pot of money
they don’t care and who can blame them.
