    Rich,

Thanks for the info on the Radome, shame but never mind. BTW I am the guy attempting to build the Shack MR Mk3 Phase 3 on the Britmodeller site that you helped out with the roof pictures a few weeks back. When my Dad who worked with Lancs in WWII is out of hospital and feeling up to it I will get him over to Coventry to come and have a look at 693. He was one of the founders of the East Mids AVA at East Midlands Airport many years ago and was instrumental in getting Graham Vale’s Varsity running up. He had to pack in the AVA when my Mum got ill but he would love to have a look at the Shack.

    Cheers

    Hi Guys

Just read through most of this thread from scratch, What a brilliant story and many congratulations to the SPS for your sheer doggedness and tenacity over the years. I have a couple of quick questions if you don’t mind – what happened to the AN/APS-20 radome off 963 and do you have any in your spares shed?

    Cheers

    Sintra,

Yes you are on the right track, just because “Congress” pressurised IAI into cancelling the original deal to install an AESA into those BE-50’s for the Chinese, it would be reasonably to conclude that by that stage the Chinese scientists had got a pretty good handle on how the AESA Radar system worked. The Israelis are pretty good at working around other people’s rules and I would be willing to bet that the KJ-2000’s radar isn’t vastly different to that in the Indian Air Force’s Beriev A50EI.

If any forum members are particularly interested in AEW aircraft then feel free to have a look at my new website AEW World which is dedicated to all aspects of AEW.

It includes the History of the subject, all the Manufacturers Serial numbers, Bureau of Aeronautics numbers and Squadron codes of virtually every AEW aircraft ever built from 1944 to date.

There is a modelling section that contains build sequences of plastic, resin and wood models and a Gallery of my completed models.

Another section relays the latest news and developments of AEW&C platforms around the world. Finally there is a Book section that lists the top ten books written on the subject.

Come along and have a look at http://aewworld.weebly.com/

There’s something there for everyone who is interested in the subject.

    Cheers

Surely the Embraer R-99A with the Erieye has got to be a runner. Its good cost effective and proven. Ask the French Mirage pilots who got a bit of a shock during their joint exercises with the Brazilian Air Force last year. It can’t be that expensive as the Greeks have bought some!

Then there’s always the new C295 -AEW I suppose.

    ZG989

The Islander/Defender with the large bulbous nose, ZG989 has been flying out of Waddington again last week and this week. It has spent hours orbiting the Lincoln area at around 10.000ft, must be doing some sort of AEW trial. Maybe they are going to replace Astor/Sentinals with the cheaper competitor from all those years ago afterall!
