On 9th of July 1959 while on a training flight a Canberra T 4 (WT487) of 17 Sqn RAF Wildenrath was involved in a mid-air-collision (touch) with a GAF F-84 F Thunderstreak of 31 JABO-Staffel Noervenich. The accident in which the Canberra suffered a damaged rudder as the result of being hit by the extra fuel tank of the F.84 F, happened over Kevelaer, Germany, near to RAF Laarbruch. The damaged fuel tank became dislodged and crashed onto Kapellenplatz, fortunately missing people and buildings. Both aircraft were able to return to their airfields landing safely but damaged. The crew of both aircraft were unharmed but a little shaken.
Pilot of the 17 Sqn Canberra was Fg Off Lees, navigator Flt Lt Alan Potter, also on board for an Instrument Rating Test Flt Lt Webster
Does anyone know any more details about this incident?

A few days ago there was a report onForces.TV about the closure of RAF Laarbruch in 1999:
Laarbruch Farewell 1999
The last aerial is very interesting as the wings of the Laarbruch Museum Canberra are still to be seen.
Today our engineers are working on the wings. Next week they are expected at Laarbruch.

Royal Air Force Laarbruch Museum is experiencing the same problems. Our engineering team transported the fuselage of Canberra PR7 – WH773 – from Gatwick Aviation Museum to Germany.
The wings are to follow in a few weeks time. I’m afraid they will have to be cut as we can’t afford a transport with police escort and all that.

I found this photo of Spitfire QV-B leading a Phantom in one of our photo boxes (RoyalAir Force Museum Laarbruch). But don’t have any further information.
One guess: It was taken at RAF Wildenrath, Air Show 15 June 1969

Wh775 was a 31 Sqn aircraft but in the photo it doesn’t have the 31 Sqn badge.
It was on 13 Sqn as well. At Wildenrath. So maybe that’s the airfield I’m looking for.
The buildings in the background are not RAF Laarbruch.
And onther one: a helicopter base.

What type of glider is the Laarbruch Listener title showing? Is it an Astir?
August 1965
Perhaps it’s the show you’re looking for.
First Red Arrows Show on RAF Laarbruch with Folland Gnat
In their first season, 1965, the Red Arrows flew 65 displays in Britain, France, Italy, Holland, Belgium and Germany, and the Team was awarded the Britannia Trophy by the Royal Aero Club in recognition of its outstanding contribution to British prestige in the field of aviation.
The first display in Germany was at RAF Laarbruch on 6 August 1965. On the following day, 7 August, there was an official display at RAF Geilenkirchen. Since then the Red Arrows have performed in Germany 170 times.
More on Laarbruch/Geschichte
Thanks for the quick answer.
On the museum website I assembled all the Laarbruch related crashes and fatal crashes.
Fatal crashes
If you do not want to give the name here, I would appreciate a private message. hwk95301@live.de
Meanwhile I had a look at the Laarbruch Listener magazines of the following months but I couldn’t find anything about this accident.
Searching old newspapers I found an article about a glider crash.
A glider from Laarbruch crashed near a house at Weeze on Sunday, August 16, 1987 around 3 p.m. The female pilot (29) was killed in the crash.
She had started from RAF Laarbruch. So perhaps she belonged to Two Rivers Gliding Club” The article stated she was English, an experienced pilot who had flown gliders for years.

Sorry, the articles are from a German newspaper.
I’m still trying to find more information in the Laarbruch Listener magazine.
Does anyone recall this fatal accident?
Laarbruch F540 for Jan 64 states:
On the night of 16th Canberra WT510 flown by Fg Off Turner crashed on landiing at base after engine trouble during the flight. No injuries were sustained, though the aircraft is considered to be Category 4.
As a member of Royal Air Force Laarbruch Museum I would be very interested in the photos you wrote about.
