It’s OK guys, Just give all your non-conforming items to me. I live in Aberdeen and due to daily exposure to radioactive granite ( and a few years working with oilwells producing Low Specific Activity Scale ), I already glow in the dark without the aid of Ready-Brek, and enjoy nothing more than listening to my kids playing I spy, with my middle eye……….:D
Why is the engine pylon a different shape on the port outer
Pete,
Noticed that the same question had been asked ( and answered ) on UKAR. Apparently it’s the only engine without a supercharger for cabin pressurisation.
Spent many hours in the back of Viscounts travelling between Aberdeen and Sumburgh on oil charter flights back in the 90’s.
Somehow always felt safe and secure on them, and as Rob 68 remarked, those huge windows rewarded you with fine views on a clear day.
Good fun on a ( Sumburgh ) runway 33 arrival or 15 departure as well !!! 😀
Yes, I know time moves on, but i much preferred the Viscount to it’s successor the ATR 72, which – although I may be looking through the old rose-tinteds here – seemed to break down more often !
Convair was sold a month or so ago. Going to a nursery (the garden centre type) in Scotland.
Anyone know exactly where in Scotland ?
Tail feathers look more Bestmann-ish than 108 to me.
Straight leading edge, curved trailing edge on fin and lower set tailplane than on the 108.
Doen’t fit with front end and undercart though.
I herd it has missed the window to fly out
Wouldn’t it be easier – and probably less messy – to open the Hangar doors ???!!! 😀
Very sad news.
We all wish that Raymond Baxter and his like could be around, to meet, listen to and learn from forever, but as we all know this can sadly never be the case.
What we do have however, through books, broadcasting and memories, is a lasting testament to ensure that we and future generations will never forget their kind.
For a lifetimes service to the nation – both in the military and out – we thank and applaud you sir, may you rest in peace.
Steve
Andy,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately cannot remember the exact colour scheme. Tried googling for more information on several filmsites and suchlike for any pics, clues, pilot’s name etc, – but could not find out any more. The information provided on your excellent website however would seem to narrow it down.
If I do find out anything, I’ll let you know.

By the way hope you don’t mind the picture is now my desktop. Don’t get many of me at work!!!!!!
Stormin’
You need to thank dodrums for the pic for it was he who posted it.
By this time I think I was in the queue to get out, trying to entertain children and being thankful for the virtues of air conditioning !!
As I said, “panels” expert. Once panel off hand over job to engine expert.
Union rules…….!! 😀
infra sound being vibrations that are beyond the human ear’s hearing range but which can still make wine glasses sing, floorboards buzz and windows rattle.
Very Interesting Ant – Thanks for the reply. Just shows that if you look far enough there are normally more contributing factors than a one off “sensational event”. I don’t dismiss out of hand the fact that supernatural phenomena can occur, I just think that a lot of the time you need to do more than just scrath the surface.
The next flight for our Meteor is this coming Saturday up to Leuchars for the airshow
Very much looking forward to seeing it display. Haven’t seen one aloft “in the flesh” since the RAF’s Vintage Pair at Leuchars many years ago. If I recall correctly, on that occasion one of them had a tyre burst on landing. Anyone else remember this or the year ??
Fantastic news – I look forward with baited breath to see her fly for two reasons.
Firstly, it was always one of my favorite performers at airshows.
Secondly, to see the look on my 2 sons ( and 2 daughters for that matter ) faces, as four Olympus’s go howling past the crowd line for the first time.
15,000 there according to “The Evening News” and we noticed people were still queuing up a couple of hours into the show.
This could possibly be one area for improvement. I also noticed, upon arrival, ( about 10:30 ) the length of the queues to get in. The queue at that time for collection of pre-booked tickets was just as long as the ” buy on the day ” queue which I would imagine would upset some people who had pre-booked in order to avoid queueing.
More ticket booths for next year perhaps ??
Best option was pre-booking and getting them sent through to home address, although I realise this might not have been possible closer to the show.
