I have to say that for me, the comment that sums it all up is the one line of reflective genius that appears at the bottom of every post by forum member DazDaMan:
” Wasps are the Katie Price of the Animal Kingdom – utterly pointless and bloody irritating! “
Sorry to head off on a bit of a tangent, but does anyone know when and if the team will be heading to Akrotiri for their pre-season work up ??

Anyone who votes in Scotland for dividing this island deserves my sterotype with no personal offence to you Loose-Head.
They’ve got to be permanently ‘bevied’ (sloshed/sozzled) or on prescribed or stolen drugs/medication to believe in anything bar unity of an island being it’s greatest strength.
No offence taken. What I was trying to point out is that people who wish independence will wish it for different reasons. It’s easy to follow the populist ideal of the typical Red headed Scotsman full of whisky, ranting about independence looking for a fight with anyone ‘South of the Border’. However, different people wish different things for different reasons, possibly based on their upbringing, or personal circumstance and you can’t just throw them all into the ‘you must be bevvied etc’ bracket.
For the record, I personally (although a proud Scot)do not think that we can survive financially or governmentally as a nation on our own. If someone could provide me with the evidence to prove otherwise, then I might be persuaded. As you yourself alluded to, best for Mr. Salmond to make use of his not inconsiderable abilities to get the best deal for Scotland. At least there we agree !!

When they are ‘bevvied’ (sloshed, sozzled) akin to a routine Rab C Nesbit state all that comes to their minds is BRAVEHEART (Mel eat your heart out).
And by saying that you are as guilty of taking a stereotypical view of the Scots as a whole, as some of them are guilty of taking Gibsons portrayal of Wallace as being fact.

[QUOTE=bazv;1842126]I have probably 15 or so songs that really get me… but here is a sort of ‘what could have been’ – Siohban Maher was the singer with River City People and she never really became as well known as she should have been…

OK, sentimental time now …..
Me and my girlfriend at the time both loved this band when they came out. Walking on Ice was a particular favorite. Unfortunately we were both too young to handle the responsibilities that the relationship brought and we split, but she was always the one that got away for me…… Couldn’t listen to the song for the best part of twenty years.
However, cutting a long story short we got back together recently after 21 years apart and life is great . That song ( and the whole Say Something Good Allbum) get played quite a lot again now !!!:D:D:D

Regarding Paphos –
WL747 carries a name on the starboard side, but none of the photo’s I have are close enough to be able to read it.
WL757 carries “Wg Cdr C J Booth” on the port side.
No idea if WR967 is carrying anything, from the last photo I saw earlier this year it was barely visible in the weeds.
If I manage to get any co-operation out the airport personnel over in Paphos I might be able to get a bit more info. Its about time I sent them an e-mail/letter again anyway.
Regards,
Rich
Rich,
The two Paphos Shacks are about 10 minutes away from my house in Cyprus. Have a couple of shots from earlier on this year that I’ll dig out but will get a couple of pics when I head back there at the end of January – the grass had been cut when I left there in December, so will hopefully manage to get some clear pics when I get back from the Ukraine at the beginning of February. The old ladies sit Starboard side on to the fence and are pretty well faded now but I’ll see what I can do.

I know the initial post did suggest various civil helicopters and other posts have hinted on the Viscount, HS748 and Dash 7 in the oil support roles, but how about being a bit more specific – the Sikorski S61N?
These are pretty much extinct in Aberdeen nowadays, a far call from the days when the sky was full of them. Probably the most comfortable chopper I’ve been offshore in.
Also rapidly decreasing in number over the skies of Aberdeenshire is the AS.332L Puma, being edged out in favour of the newer EC225 – probably the most uncomfortable chopper I’ve been offshore in.
Kind Regards,
Scotty
Couldn’t agree more. The 61 was like settling into grandads old armchair !! A bit slower, but I would trade an extra 20 mins flight time for the comfort. Plenty of room even when trussed up in survival suit. lifejacket and rebreather, as opposed to the Puma / Tiger / 225 series that leaves you with a good idea of what a sardine feels like !!
The 61 although in dwindling numbers nowadays has been a workhorse of the North Sea for 30 years plus and would fully justify is place at near the top of the civil list for the second half of the 20th century in North East aviation.
