I think that the the short answer is “No”.
It was done initially in public by the Aussies IIRC as a piece of showmanship only. I chatted on detachment in the fairly early ’80’s with the RAAF pilot who first did it.
We did joke about the visual shock value however.

Brazil is equip with Rafale if they choose it. Guerilla is in Paraguay. I do not think it is nice to say Brazilian paratroopers is gay. I know Brazil have wild time at Rio and thing can happen there, but it is not all paratrooper.

Admaril, for fighting Gorilla warfare I wonder if Rafale is a bit of overkill. Perhaps a less complex , earlier aeroplane from the same stable would be adequate – like the Dassault Ourangutang?

    .
If this slant suggests, not that Healey was bad to chop these things, but that Thorneycroft had not interrogated bright Requirors, you would be right.

IMHO this is a fair summary of what happened . Also , with respect to TSR2, I think many in the previous Conservative administration had also realised that the specification was inappropriate. Many were relieved when Labour (Healey) had to take the flack for a decision which would have had to have been taken anyway by them, had the Conservatives not lost the election.
Incidentally, looking at the stage stops of how TSR-2 was to deploy to the Far East (without AAR!) required hold over airfields fast moving out of the UK’s control under the “winds of change”.
I think Healey bit the bullet pretty well ,under the circumstances. Part of his direct post-HS681 legacy is still with us in the shape of the original Hercules buy, which was surely on reflection good value for the U.K.
Some older forum members may recall how he was heavily attacked for buying an “obsolete” American aircraft at the time!

That was the very first case of a missile encounter combat in the history of war in the air. [/SIZE]

On second thoughts…….perhaps not such a good idea for those of us who inhabit the real world.

RAFM Hendon have copies as well early copies of The Aeroplane.

    Anne

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if “Aeroplane” (as distinct from Aeroplane Monthly) could be given the “Flight” treatment as well.
Surely this is would be indeed be worth seeking Lottery sponsorship for?

Have we totally discounted the possibility that the “rules” changed as the air war evolved?

Couldn’t have put it better myself JDK: I think you have given a very concise and fair appraisal.
My retort to EN 830 ( nothing personal Rob) was principally against being unfairly ascribed a simplistic and, to many people offensive, opinion that I just do not hold.

Your admiration for the β€œfat” one is admiral, however he was also instrumental in destroying that same airforce, obviously in conjunction with the various allied airforces as well.

Your deduction as to my opinion of the man is about as accurate as your use of language in this instance.

Please don’t get confused between blacking out under “g” and “g-LOC”. They are two different conditions.

Please remember ,beyond modern cartoon history: The “fat one” ,from the ruins of the Armistice , was a key player in building up one of the finest fighting Air Arms the world had then yet seen.

I suspect a lot later than 1950 for a Viscount.

There’s a big article on the HS 681 in AE124 of a couple of months ago.

Something similiar with T-37, but can it be classified to basic trainer? or to senior trainer?
    Thanks!

In its two-seat configuration -an advanced trainer, IIRK
