probably the F-35 and T-50 too.

And any good special ops glider too!
But what about AtoA, bombing and dogfight?:(

    Fanboy detected.

    Or not; or twice.
Stating one’s A/C of choice strength’s is not “fanboyism”,
For instance if a Typhoon enthusiast says that his plane
has the biggest bum, he’s entitled!
I’ll just go : “good fer ya, mate” or something!

    Which brings us to :

Then this discussion comes to an end due to a lack of open minded contributors.

Thank you, good sir! Bow, bow, bow! May the Earth inherit many such good natured souls!

But I forgot, the Rafale pilots said so.

Omega 3s, do wonder for the memory but if your drawers
are filled up, the new pushes the old out, no matter, says SH*.

A lot can happen in 30 years.

    Agreed, us French know :

Two comments on that pic :
    No German/Spanish/Austrian/Saudi… translation?
    Half-azzed job, I’d say!:D

But it reminds me of : “e pericoloso sporget si”
in the trains of my youth, before the TGV. Two thumbs up!

I’m sure that I remember many Rafale fans were being equally open minded when confronted with anonymous tip-offs provided by Jon Lake …

OH? So it was really him?

all I have asked is that somebody provide a direct quote attributed to a pilot

    ???????????????
    ’cause :

You are beyond biased, and draw conclusions from laughable evidence. But I forgot, the Rafale pilots said so.

Now, I’m weally confused?? Nonplussed! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Of course they did , you are wrong and I already told you so .
As I said , even the old Mirage III already had a low RCS from design on , as seen here with a Swiss one :

Let’s not confuse Marcel Dassault’s legacy of building beautiful planes.
on the sole and lame account that they fly better I may add, with low RCS?
Those two straight front canopy framing struts are not quite F-117 precursors,
    are they? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Btw, thanks for all those nice comparative pictorials, they seem a tad unfair
but truth is, you might turn me into a Raffy fan if you don’t stop!

T-50 against Rafale will be massacre.

Shucks, mate, be nice to those poor Russians; don’t say it out loud!:o

Regarding jet fighters , Russia did not show anything brilliant in the last 25 years .

That’s not true! They’re now fitting French avionics on their mules!:dev2:

In the air , Typhoons and Rafales are different beasts .

LOL On the ground too :
    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/__A2VG2LiIPk/THkaH14ABDI/AAAAAAAAAKM/X3ftbD4-HHw/s1600/Rafale-1.jpg

We all saw some fairy numbers . Example : one can quickly check the range of the AN/APG-68 : 296km (!?)

They read it all wrong : 962 km!.

*Not intended to mean Super Hornet.

    Good night all, Tay.

P.S. You’ll have noticed that I carefully left the contributors’ names out
to preserve OPIT’s modesty. Sorry if it hindered comprehension any! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

A varying curvature is similar to a sea-shell helix . The curves have an ever-changing circle radius , as though they are sections of a spiral rather than arcs of a circle , and thus do not reflect energy in the usual predictable way .

Main RCS “flashing” points on the Phoon are
certainly the huge canards although partially
transparent by materials choice and those
    moving inlet lips.
( I surmise they could be used to produce
Morse code which although short -range
is darn discreet as a liaison, again equal
    or superior to the Raptor:p. * )

If the intakes were non-moving and the canards smaller,
the Typhie would have a rather nice RCS
especially with the aforementioned recessed mounting points.

If the canards go completely off, the plane may not fly:D
but it would be one heck of a beaut’.:)

Coming back to the MMRCA, if all the rumors are true !!! …
( Sonia Gandhi? LOL We must have paid everyone, LOL.
This deal is clinched, re-LOL. Next on the list of reveals :
Enzo Casolini and Peter Luff !! ):diablo:

    Good day all, Tay.

    * Not so short-ranged either if one implies sending Morse to
the incoming enemy through radar flashes and hustlin’ him :
-“Get back home, mate, the wifey is about to pop and
the game is about to start!”

There was also the infamous Roland missiles found with a 2003 date on them

I’m sure it had nothing to do with a given disagreement
about a given upcoming war at that time.;)

    @Seahawk

I personally believe that the 40km difference is based on a slightly lower RCS and better jammers, as the required jamming power reduces in a linear fashion with a reduced RCS.

First one to link the two properly, congrats!
Yes, the Rafale was planned with lower RCS,
numbers were forwarded in the requirement.
( Do not ask me or anyone for them though,
they were not made available to the poeple! )
Those were subordinated to the “omnirole”
requirement by the govt and to the flight qualities
“requirement” by Dassault and fitted with SPECTRA.

As for the prices, especially that of the Phoon,
The numbers thrown cover quite a range, don’t you think?
I mean, from cheaper than Rafale in the Nederland to
125 million Euros that I saw somewhere in the previous pages?

    Ridiculous! Almost ludicrous!
Heck! If the press ends up stating the EF at 180+M,
it will then have two things in common with the Raptor!
Undisputed mastery of the high skies ( as per EF ad )
    and PRICE.

I love our Raffy but I sincerely believe and hope for UK
that the Typhoon soars higher than its price.

It gave me an idea though! Until the Indian decide for good,
I’m rooting for the journos! Go, go, go guys; do your worst!

    Good day all, Tay.

I am not saying that there is no brain power in the UK , in Germany , etc , etc . Of course not .

Actually, the Typhoon may have suffered from too much brain power…
    working in different directions!:(

Whereas Dassault has this “integrated” family business turned pro thang
going that they probably rate it second to their simply being darn good.

This being said, someone asked for maintenance hours estimates?

Afghanistan as reported by the then CEEMA ( i.e. Air Marshall ) saw
12 maintenance hours per flight hours in 2007.
That would be on first or second AdlA deployment.
    Not bad for a “new” ( F2 ) bird.
About the also then 40k euros per flight hour quote.

These numbers should have decreased since just as they’ll rise again
when the plane nears end of life.
Common numbers range from turnover ( under duress ) to common
8-9 hours on top A/C in prime service to 500+h on “relics”.

Availability though is interesting ranging from 50% in 2005 and then
65% a couple years later as regards the whole fleet.
Same number for A-Stan would read 90+%.

Since that may not have helped enough, here’s the ESTA :

and an old vid about our Raffy’s maintenance :

    Hope it helps somewhat!

    Good night all, Tay.

Just a quick reply to Lindermeyer :

The original OSF’s IR components stopped being produced.
    That’s the obsolete part.

Budget constraints added to the problem and tranche 3 was
    not equipped period.

The OSF NG is camera only but they’ve “unlocked” the IR in it.
Very small spread into IR frequencies though.

Both versions have the laser-ranging tool.

Still possible that they may add the IR sensor later, rumors….

Misc. : Damoclรจs does IR; OSF TV/telemetry laser work for
bombing with AASM; OSF kits V.1 can be switched between
planes within 30-45 mins on a per need basis.

    In a nutshell, that’s it.

    Good day all, Tay.

    Quote:
I have heard 2 stories regarding the probe
    1) the Marine Navale* were concerned about reliability of a retracting probe and it was there requirement to install a fixed probe ( a little odd given how long retractable air to air refuelling probes have been round but you never know)

Winning proposition according to Dassault :

โ€ข The decision to eliminate the complex systems from the early design phase (no airbrake, fixed air intakes, electrical generation using a variable frequency totally free of the fragile parts of alternators currently fitted on other aircraft, a fixed refuelling probe avoiding retraction problems, etc) ensures maintenance needs reduction, in terms of spares, maintenance man hours and support equipment.

    @Spitfire

Isn’t DACT an acronym of dissimilar air combat training? If it is, then by its very nature one side may be put at a (perhaps very severe) disadvantage to the other. If the side with one or both hands tied behind its back “loses”, what is “proved” is that with certain disadvantages, one side “lost” on the day concerned.

What if the side with one or both hands tied behind his back “wins”?
    Same thing, I surmise?

    @Scorpion
The HLD CANNOT be tactile/touch sensitive anyhow …
since it is collimated to the horizon to match the HUD!

Whomever said so must have been referring to the two
    smaller displays that are touch-sensitive.
They could also have remembered that on a HOTAS bird….

of course the probably more comprehensive use of RAM coatings.

“Wetting” the cell with a composite skin or wrapping up the more
radar responsive parts within the composites, if you will.
Then you can RAM-paint as need be.

    From the horse’s mouth :

Minimising the radar cross section has also been a design driver in order to make stealth tactics possible. Most of the stealth design features are classified, but some of them are clearly visible, such as the serrated patterns on the trailing edges of the wings and canards.

Dassault Aviation has a long praised tradition of designing sturdy airframes that sustain over 30 years of operation without heavy structural retrofit.

Thanks to a Dassault Aviation unique know-how in finite element modelisation, the RAFALE airframe fatigue is monitored with a gauge-free concept, a now proven concept which, day after day, has demonstrated its relevance on the Mirage 2000 fleet.

Composite materials are extensively used in the RAFALE and they account for 70% of the wetted area. They also account for the 40% increase in the max take-off weight to empty weight ratio compared with traditional airframes built of aluminium and titanium.

Maybe the Russians would be nice enough to invade Liechtenstein?
We could defend it together, same plane count to begin with,
and whomever has the most left-over A/Cs “wins”?

Oh, shoot, of course not, not the best plane then :

As long as it goes both ways!

So that, following those last few months/years of dissin’,
I fully expect the legendary British fairplay to show up as soon
as a member of the UK military says anything remotely positive
about the Eurofighter and my Cordial buddies to ascertain that :
” – Nevermind, Tay, our pilots are illiterate nincompoops with
the ability for truth of a seasoned politician.”

To which, I’ll, of course, answer :
” – Oh, my poor fellow, how I understand your predicament!”:dev2:
