I see that must be really annoying to India, but why not then exclude the F-18, too?

Which may be why the first semi-official/govt news after testing
was completed gave EF and Rafale as front runners. Once again,
read no mili evaluation between those lines but rather political bias!

Not luck, Brad Piff ( BTW, great pseudo! )!

Yourself got it afterwards, better than anyone yet!
All sensors being fully integrated does mean that Spectra getting a bip
will ask for infos from the other sensors and that TV channel in the OSF
is coupled to a laser rangefinder, so….

Both insomnia and you also did point out the surrealistic aspects of that
unending quest for the MMRCA deal : it just darn fudging well has been
going on for too long! At this point, I wouldn’t even be surprised if they
chose the T/A-50 or the Texan II, lol.

    Good day all, Tay.

    Tay trans :

Which SPECTRA was also able, on two occasions, to detect and classify – and to propose to the pilot trajectory modifications to avoid their specific detection envelope – some Ground to Air systems ( SA-6 ) that even the American F-16 CJs specialised in SEAD missions, also flying on those outings, had not been able to find. Admittedly, the said F-16 CJs were not equipped, during these flights, with their usual SEAD systems, to wit the HTS pod ( HARM Targeting Systems ), while their menace library hadn’t been refreshed to incorporate some anti-aircraft radars found in the area. SEAD was not their mision that day.
But neither was it the Rafale’s. And yet their SPECTRA, without any other equipment than those always carried on-board, did better than tghe F-16 CJ whom, basically, are SEAD specialized.
It is the whole difference between the multirole that needs to come back to base and land to switch from one type of mission to another and polyvalence [ omnirole ] that allows one to operate in-flight at the same time in all the different mission types.

    @ PeterG

There are three “versions” of the Raffy : C or Rafale Air single seater
B or Rafale Air two seater
M ro rafale Marine ( all singles )

The Rafale M is only different as far as adding space in the front fuselage
for the bigger energy-restitution landing gear that jumps up when liberated
    from the catapult.

As far as getting back on track/ thread, apart maybe from the F-16, the
IAF deosn’t face too shabby a choice anyway, nationalistic preference put
    aside of course. 😉

    Good day all, Tay.

The difference with the naval version is only enough to allow a specific
front landing gear. Even the arresting hook is on the land version!

    Omni means ALL!
    Multi means MANY!
So you can swing all you want, mate!

How many nuke Gripen NG/EF? How many naval Gripen NG/EF?
How many … oh, well! You get the picture!

    Sincerely, Tay.

So to you omnirole means integrated sensors and some jamming capabilities, basically SPECTRA?

    Well, my dear Sintra,

Typhoon already has, for more than a decade

    , no it doesn’t!

Integrated sensors like I described, it doesn’t!
Ingrown SEAD lite, it doesn’t and…
most of all, Spectra, LOL, it doesn’t…even come close.

The Typhoon and the Rafale are not quite comparable planes,
which seems to have eluded most, probably on account of intent?

One was to be an air superiority machine ground-based only.
One was to be an omnirole mili A/C for cross-WARing.
If they had come out alike now, THAT would have been a surprise!

If I am to believe Typhoon enthusiasts, that lass has better radar,
engines, avionics and MMi. Instead of disputing that, about which
loyal followers should normally be better informed than the spare
infamous frog, let me respectfully ask what reason might there be
for such a myopic, undergeared, pilot-unfriendly anvil to regularly
place no further than second to specialized wunderflûgwerks while
    trouncing the pants of wannabes?

How many nukes Typhoon? How many naval Typhoon? How many
carry AASM type bombs or Exocets?
    How come 8-1 and 7-1?

Considering all the troubles the best airforce in the world is having at
producing two planes to cover the same spectrum within any darn
sort of semblance of budget ( See F-35 thread for latest news! ),
I’d have to say that I find our national choice borderline brilliant!

Besides, according to recent events, we may soon see F-35s and Rafales
on the same platform regularly with infos galore!
Unless, that is, there are only Rafales??? Then the chat will perdure but in
a quiet mess between RAF and FAA pilots. Gee! I hope they keep us posted!

    Anyway, good night all, Tay.

You’re welcome, mrmalaya. Sharing info is a forum’s basic intent.
Let’s just hope that we, the French, will be more trustworthy and
sincere as friends and partner so that you will nto regret this.

Then again, it is with the U.K. that we made Jaguar and Gazelle
    AND that most beautitful and exceptional plane : Concorde ;
not with the Americans so why not eh!:)

    Good day all, Tay.

Fox1 : The hottest babe around.
    OSF : Over Shoulder Firing
dielectric : which uses two different electric currents so that if the darn utilities break down again, you’ll still have light.
Plan-form alignment : When your form is in a plane( geometrical one not the flying type one ) as opposed to when it’s all crunched up on the floor cause you gave up!
Thacht weave : respect for English parliament does not allow me to answer that one!
Inverted : Oh! Well, you know… your choice, really!
Aspect/angle : A common pub term meaning that with a few beers more, your angle to her aspect ratio could change.
OPsec : the highest level of MPs that are charged with operational security and make sure that no one compromises the General’s tea.

How did I do? Was that what you wanted?

The extra bill for the delays of LM will surface over the years for all to see.
For the related software development delays LM can neither blame the politicans nor a lack of money. We can assume to a fair degree, that we will have a mix of non-stealth fighters and a much smaller number of F-35s as planned. The USA learned not from the lesson with LM and their F-22 desaster and is forced by that through the same costly experiences again.

The analysis is top-notch but really, the situation is ludicrous,
ridiculous and even non-sensical and should almost bring tears
    but to the most anti-Americans.
The mighty U.S. of A will see its Air Forces reduced in half over
little time, not by lack of tech or cashflow, but by managerial
    incompetance!
Actually, it almost makes sense! Still sad.

Sure Rookh, That is part of it but do notice that no one but Dassault whom coined the term for miliavia even tried to claim it!
As long as we’re doing advertising semantics which is a fully registered extreme sport, it means something.

What comes to mind is this that i can add to the example given up there
of a certain hot day between sand and skies : When the Rafale pilot is engaged in BFM merge for example, he has one big screen conveniently located right
under the HUD where a single threat is a single track of all sensors coorelated.
No mental gymnastic to interpret signals from different screens or tracks.
Probably why they’ve been doing so good without a HMCS.

Anything it has to do the Rafale can perform as is and will get much better at it when the equipment piles on. I sometimes wonder if all the “E-noise”
is not a memory blocker of sorts as AdlA is only getting its tools as of say yesterday. The first Rafale NUC squadron came operational this summer
( and examplifies Raffy omnirole as any RafaleB ( 2 seater ) can be equipped
with the nuke “boxes” and thus the Gascogne will be free to engage in non-nuke activities like deep-strikes which was not possible with the
Mirage 2000 N squadrons. Damoclès and RECO-NG have just been given battle rights and the other F3 functions are awaiting their material yet.
And, might I add shame-faced, while the latter is apparently a great tool,
a Damoclès XF is under way as the first version is not up to par!

We are all waiting for a decsion in France about the OSF-IT which is late
by my standards as they should back-procure them and well, we’ll see!

Designed from the start to replace 7 to 11 types of aircraft, the Rafale is a single type and should normally remain so in French inventory. If you are used to Blocks in airplane types, you might be missing the point easily.
Even the baby F1s are getting ugraded although, in a sense, they were not “full” Rafales to begin with.
More sensors, more fusion of them ( On an A-to-A threat in Al-Dhafra, Spectra fired the shot, not the pilot! ) and all that at all times without specific tasking of any kind.

One more look and good night all, talk to you in ten hours, lol, Tay.
