    @Loke

LOL, Dassault most likely had the same thing happen
to them in the Boeing attitude in the Swiss tender :diablo:

    Something like :
““Our belief is that the Swiss have issued the RFP only to have some rabbit for the French to chase.” But that’s not a role Boeing wants to be in. “We are not ready to spend millions [on a campaign] only to be used as a rabbit for the French.””
( Although for now it was the Swedes instead. )

Good for them ( Dassault ) that they apparently learned from it

    Hum?

    2) As to price, we know that:

    a) The Rafale bid in the UAE has been judged “uncompetitive and unworkable” by no lesser figure than Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE then issued an RFQ to Eurofighter, who it presumably thinks are capable of coming up with something competitive and workable.

    b) The Rafale bid in India was within 5% of the Typhoon bid – and failed to undercut the Typhoon by a sufficient margin to trigger automatic selection.
Are you sure that Rafale is the cheaper option here?

    c) Les Temps described the Rafale as “definitely the most capable aircraft. It is also the most expensive.”

    M’well, not quite :

    A) The Rafale bid was supposed to include some work
for developing UAE specific capabilities as the Emirates
have asked in the past for the F-16s and Dash-nines.
It is on the cost of these that Dassault was stringent as
the firm already covered 25% of the previous ( up to
F3+/F4 standards ) capacities of the FRENCH Rafales.
At some point, Dassault expected the profits from the
export sales to cover the work already done hence the
“arrogance” of asking the UAE to pay for all new gizmos.
Admittedly, that problem should have been taken care of
by an “inside” solution/agreement between them and the
French govt. Good luck to Eurofighter to transform the
essay as it will face similar conditions and kudos if it works.

    B) Agreed although no confirmed data has yet been released.

    C)

L’avion le moins cher reste le Gripen avec une offre à environ 3 milliards, alors que l’Eurofighter ferme la marche à environ 4 milliards. Le Rafale est quant à lui entre les deux.

    http://psk.blog.24heures.ch/archive/2011/11/03/avions-de-combat-constructeurs-sous-pression.html

    or translated :

The least expansive AC remains the Gripen with a bid valued at 3 Billion Euros,
while the Eurofighter is last at about 4 billion. The Rafale itself comes in between.

So that your “we know that” in your post is relative
to sources and does not allow full use of “You’re wrong”
    as adressed to Merlin.

Making claims on a prefered source to the exclusion of
other sources on the basis of personal preference and
calling the resulting impression facts was a bad
trait of the past and still is often seen in many posts
from either clans. Please, do not follow through with
this atavism that we may appreciate the Jackonouveau?
To be truthful, it is a natural tendency exhibited by all
at some point and not a singularity worth stone casting. 😮

As an example of how silly such bad faith is, let me rewrite
your other bold statement in reverse engineered fashion :

It’s a bit of a moot point, however, since Rafale was rejected in favour of Gripen.

“It’s a bit of a moot point, however, since Typhoon was rejected in favour of Gripen.”

    OR :

The Rafale was eliminated in India, and then reinstated after political lobbying.

“The Rafale was eliminated in India after political lobbying, and then reinstated.” ???

See how easy and unproductive fanboyism is?

The above sentence goes for all including its author.

Loke mate, a tongue-in-cheek answer to

However there are some strange things about this graph. If 6 really is the score of the Hornet, how do people explain that in a2a the mighty Typhoon is scoring basically the same as the Hornet!?

Of course the score is calculated according to what the Swiss needs are, but still I find that rather surprising to say the least.

    About Switzerland,

it measures 220 kilometers (137 miles) from north to south and 350 km (217 miles) from east to west.

    .

So that a 200km range radar vs a 175km one does not change much.
( Yes, I know it should scan OUTward from the place 😉 ).
What I mean is that some powerful characteristics of the EF
may well have scored on lesser factorized points and thus
not have brought it up and some lacks may have brought its
score down. It all depends on what one favors.
Defending Switzerland differs from defending India, Russia or
    the USA.
A good IFF may be more useful so that they do not shoot down
the myriads of friendly fighters that surround them? 😀
Heck they never go OPEX/foreign deployment, you know.
I guess the EF might have scored low on the highest factored value :
How good it will look with red and white markings ROFL 😀

    MrMalaya,
the idea is that the present choice would later be
    the F-18’s replacement too 🙂
Agreed with the curry sauce fish, of course!

    @Obligatory
Arghh Palau maybe or even the US Tx tender but
    still no bet 😮

BTW Obligatory, to answer your MMRCA thread’s query
about the DEDIRA, I have seen it mentioned in the 2010
and 2011 Defence law projects but not in any more, say
    decisive documents.
I hope someone has more precisions.

I like the Rafale as an AC but nah … seing the muddled
state of the French sales teams, no bet on Libya, sorry. 😮

But Obligatory mate, Libya has neither the need nor the pilots
for the Rafale  ( although it does have the money ).
I would see them getting the UAE’s dash nines, no matter which
AC is chosen to replace them.

As for the Swiss, Gripen is enough for their real needs
even if the pilots will cry like babies if forced to go that
route. Replacing F5s is ok but trading F18s later for the
    Gripen C/D with probable NG EWS/engine upgrade … 🙁

    Good day all, Tay.

If it may help, the Typhoon is given at 315m/s climbing rate.
    Rafale at 305.

The Rafale’s “poor showing in Libya”?

You wouldn’t be one of those … huh,
“EF propaganda as an only source”
people by any chance   :p

    http://www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/verbatim/4/130746/india-must-act-on-mmrca-offsets.html

At last a serious piece, mentioning that India needs
to follow through on the MMRCA buy with a strong
investment in its mili-aero industrial sector in order
to reap maximum profit from the offsets and ToT.

    @ Witcha
Your view about the engine is a tad simplistic. 😮
The 2 ACs chosen have managed to score properly
in the IAF’s tests and fill the requirements. If there
was a problem, the Rafale simply would not have
been shortlisted. The Rafale is NOT underpowered
because if so, how can it carry more load over more
    distance?
As explained time and time again, the 9T engine is
available from Safran but would require an important
redesigning of the intakes. You are right about the
nose size and it could be the best time to do that as
the redesign takes place. However, first the money
has to be found to finance it and second, the work is
more difficult than you may think as it impacts on the
whole cell conception. Considering this would lead me
to believe that if the upgrade was made, it would be
part of the DEDIRA worksheet ( Additional discretion
    program ).
But then yes, your take would be logical although it
then does not fit in the present MMRCA timeline.

BTW, could you share the link to that pic in the Solange
test chamber that you provided in your post # 140?

One of Swerve’s propositions is interesting.

The Centauro could be bought in both Freccia and
the new very nice Draco version thus meaning only
    one maintenance unit!

After the MMRCA and those two, small AWACS in numbers
    would be great too.

    Fully agreed, Quadbike.

The MMRCA stays of course but the new Mountain Strike Corps
    needs those :

( or some samesuch ) and a light tank. Maybe the IAF
should be in charge of the procurement though 😀

LOL Giblets, that’s quite an old video anyway,
    has been posted often.

But yes as some of the accompanying side-bar
vids can show, the French pilots over sea seem
to think that the plane is toooo high unless you
can see the engine blast wave in the water!?

It’s barely better over land. Since it is restricted
over France, they mostly do it over the ocean
and I believe had more fun for more years over
Africa than even those Paris-Dakar boys. 😀
