Yes it is
This was once based at Breighton, the then owner also used to have a Chipmunk and could often be seen taking his young ‘un aloft in either – ah to have such parentage!
What is the situation at Church Fenton now as there was a Dak based there not long back aswell.
I thought the base was still RAF, are there private companys based there aswell.
Paddy Green’s Dakota was repainted at CF in hangar 3 which is not currently used by the RAF, the same hangar in which the JP’s, Strikemaster and T-6 are currently housed. I believe the Dak’ is based at Liverpool. Taff Smith also used to keep his L-39 at Church Fenton many years ago in hangar 1 alongside the Tucano stores so housing privately owned aircraft there is no new thing.
The RAF are still very much in evidence at Fenton with 1FTS using the runways during the week (a Cranwell based King Air is currently doing circuits and bumps as I type and a couple of Lynx helicopters have flown over this afternoon). Resident units are:
3 Squadron of No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School, Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron and No. 9 A.E.F. all of whom share a common pool of Grob Tutors.
Davski
Seeing a jet flypast with open canopy is a first for me!
Great vid’ as always – thanks.
Nice picture Paul.
Of course no airfield’s future can be assured but RAF Church Fenton is fit for purpose and I can’t see its role changing while the current training system continues – I also don’t see a problem with ‘bussing’ personnel over from Linton, afterall, most of us commute to work in one way or another in civvie street.
I applaud anyone who holds a light for their own local airbase/airfield. I hope Scampton remains in RAF hands, with or without the Reds, simply because I am an aviation enthusiast and I’d rather see an airfield than an eco-town or huge housing estate.
particularly with the uncertain future of Church Fenton.
No uncertainty re: RAF Church Fenton.
The latest Defence Estates review has it as a core site, and is secure up to 2030.
Estates Devolpment Plan Annex B contains Church Fentons information.
Crashed at Duxford, did it not? G-INFO lists it as “destroyed”, anyway.
It did crash at Duxford – it was surveyed with the possibility of returning to Yorkshire as Breighton’s gate guard but an L-29 was chosen instead.
I personally like the civvie schemes and yes Ben, Reno is the best place in the world to see some amazing examples of custom paint jobs on warbird aircraft – get saving!
I quite liked the half hour magazine programme that Brendan O’Brien presented on Discovery Wings a while back but other than that I must confess that I find most aviation TV boring as hell. Aviation is exciting – why aren’t aviation TV programmes?
I read on one of the other forums that the Vulcan will depart Farnborough on Saturday afternoon so there’s another opportunity to see it Oz!
What a great piece of footage – well done!
Don’t use your own concept of liberty, as a template for others. An infringement that you don’t feel, might be felt by others, or might set a precedence for further infringements.
Im not an advocate for carnage videos, but Im an advocate of online freedom.
There is a chance, when watching something unspecified, that you will be shocked and appalled. If you are unable to accept that, you should not watch unspecified material.
We simply can’t label everything according to some percieved level of public offence.
Some online communities have used the tag NSFW (Not Safe For Work), when a post might contain something, that might get people into trouble at work. Maybe those with Youtube problems, should ask Youtube to include such a tag on the video clips. That means that you, the viewer, can label something “unsafe”, so that others like yourself can avoid the content.
However, thats a voluntary and no guarantee you will not be offended.
Good points but censorship is a whole new can or worms. For instance, if I use the following words on this forum: ****, ****, ********, **** – there is a very good chance that they’ll be censored yet I can hear them on any football terrace, high street, or movie (I apologise if they’re not censored!). Would you consider this a correct use of censorship simply because this kind of language is likely to cause offence?
The subject of seeing fatal airshow crashes in the public domain for the purpose of entertainment is completely disrespectful to the pilot and my concern is that on a forum that is populated by many airshow ‘consumers’ we’re debating whether it’s right or wrong to see our friends killed over and over again in the name of entertainment.
Maybe we should have public executions live on TV, maybe set up webcams at road traffic accident blackspots and in intensive care units – it’s a free world afterall… who gives a monkey’s that these are real people? Years ago one particular video production company were offering two versions of the Woodford airshow at which the RR Spitfire crashed – one with and one without the crash – ‘Would Sir like his video with or without carnage’ was Paul Coggan’s vitriolic response and that summed up my own feelings perfectly.
To suggest that those too pussy to watch such material should avoid YouTube is ridiculous – there’s a hell of a lot of really good stuff on there – but what is wrong with YouTube exercising restraint on the grounds of good taste and out of respect for the victims? I don’t see that as an infringement of my own liberty.
:DAfter many months we have flown VH-ACG from Camden on the 19th of September this year. She has been out of the air for many years and it has taken us 18 months to get her flying again.
The flight was unremarkable save for a little trim problem and a more rapid climb than was expected.
We hope, Weather permitting , to bring her to Tooraweena for the Arthur Butler celebrations this weekend.
It will be a close run thing however.

Congratulations everyone – any piccies of the test flight?
Hi Davski,
Is there much footage of the B-17’s?
Podgysteve
Quite a bit – must confess that I pretty much fast-forwarded to the Spitfires, P-51’s and the Mark Jeffries/Yak footage (which is tremendous). The no commentary option is brilliant!!
I ordered mine ages ago too via Paypal and it arrived last Saturday – it’s brilliant!
