Serious question please: To get shots this good, how many do you discard on average?
Here you are, some stats:
– Overall ~1600 shutter clicks that day. I have heavy finger… Very heavy 🙂 and 10fps 😀
– First screening: down to ~1000 (a bit off-focus, partially cut, or just plain dull ;))
– Second screening: down to ~200 (choosing best frames out of bursts of duplicates)
– 80 goes to the website (way too much… I know that 40 would do just fine…)
– ~20 go to the forums 🙂
Is a Prangin like a fly-in but with harder landings….:D
Haha 😀 Second forum where people pointed this out… I will certainly pass the message to the organizers 😉
Perhaps a nice idea to visit the Netherlands Airforce openday next year?
Gilze Rijen? I have this already planned, booked and closed, just waiting for June 😀 Actually, I will go for two days there and then, on Sunday to Meeting de l’Air in Orleans 🙂
Any change of some Catalina shots?
Yay, I should have some 🙂

She arrived on Saturday evening with beautiful sunset, but unfortunately I was unable to take a clear shot, without the parked aircrafts clobbering the view etc. 🙁
Looks as though the back end of the Turkish F5 has just about touched terra firma on landing…
Actually, most of them did it 🙂 (but of course, I’ve chosen the most extreme one to show 😀 )
have you any more P -38 pics , it’s just so long since we’ve seen one in Europe , and the red bull example is georgeous .
Yup, fully agree. While I’m not a big fan of these “silver shiny” color schemes, sometimes it just feels right – even the Red Bull logo is rather discreet 🙂 I have couple more, but not a lot – I got it only on one day 🙁

I must correct you – it is probably the second best big airshow in Europe. The Jewel in the Crown is at a certain place in Gloucestershire 😀
Having done both twice (well, actually, for RIAT it’s more like “two and a half” for 2008 😀 ) I’ll stick to my view 😉
More on my website: Airpower 09 🙂
I do like the aerodynamic aid on the pitot tube of the (Wilja?) cropduster
It’s actually a PZL-106 Kruk – but coming from the same company, involving the same lead designer Andrzej Frydrychowicz (Wilga is PZL-104 :)). You can see it a little in the design – even if the constructions are completely different, they have same “touch” to it… kinda like Dassault planes.
what’s the flying barrel in the shot below?
Grrrr… it’s Polikarpov I-16 🙂 Now, let me find an ugly way to describe the Vulcan 😉
I like this video too: http://www.oldtimerflugtagekestenholz.ch/index.php?id=107
It’s actually made by a friend of mine 🙂 You can find more of these here: http://www.vimeo.com/aeromedia
Just wanted to say that those photos were a lesson in photography for me.
Humm… you may want to check out the other link in my signature then, in particular this section 🙂
(damn I promised myself to never get involved in any political thread here ;))
PhantomII you are right.. well almost 😉 Yes, America is a great country (perhaps not the best 😀 but still great). I fully agree with what you said about all the superb things, the opportunities, technology, etc. Come on, I had myself benefited from it more than once! Yes, it has a right to do whatever it wants to defend its interests. If it involves attacking this or that country because of this-and-that political agreements, that’s fine. If it involves shaking hands with some deadly dictators, just because they happen to be sitting on a stack of gas, that’s completely fine with me. If it involves just ignoring thousands of political prisoners somewhere, in the name of “balancing the trade deficit”, that’s bloody fine, I don’t care. Be it presenting false claims about other country as a pretext to attack it and stating “you’re with us or against”, like the famous Mr. Rumsfeld’s speech at the UN. That’s life, “these are the days of our lives”. Damn, that’s exactly what I would expect from my leaders (even if some of them happen to be retards ;)) and if they’d done otherwise I’d be the first to kick them in the nuts. I fully support the Americans like you that want to fight for all that, I’d probably do the same if I were one (especially given a chance to fly a Raptor ;))
Interestingly, all of that proves your point about Mr Blair’s quote – because it means that the country cares most about itself, its interests and its own citizens than anything else in the world. That’s indeed a reason for “in” being higher than “out”.
The one and only thing I hate about America is this bloody hypocrisy, that is trying to present all the above (once again: completely justified from a nation’s point of view) actions as “fight for the human rights”, “removing bloody regime”, “saving the world from the global terrorist threat”… etc., substitute anything you will hear on the CNN tonight.

Well, yet another Pole here 🙂 I learnt Russian for several years, as a part of obligatory education in the primary school. I don’t have much problem reading or understanding (besides, for native Polish speakers to understand is not really difficult, even if one doesn’t exactly speak Russian ;)). I can express myself a little if_i_really_have_to 😀 Otherwise, English, French and a bit of German.
Smokers! Don’t forget about smokers! 😀
