Routing through Prestwick on it’s way to the USA in July 1984:
A Matter Of Life And Death (or “Stairway To Heaven” for the Yanks!)

Superb!
Daily Mail.
I know what won’t be at Legends this year.
…………rainclouds, hopefully!!
Many thanks for all replies – esp G-APDK -very helpful. I’ll probably take the train to Harlow and then get a taxi.
I have always enjoyed this event greatly, although I must admit I have not attended for a few years -look forward to photographing the residents once again, and have my own “stumble around” – the other thread has whetted my appetite somewhat!
My apologies. We have a warning sign regarding that and yours truly forgot to set it out.
Some punters actually LIKE to stand there and get plastered in oil, . . . . takes all sorts!:DPete
Made my day actually……..!:D
I forgot to mention my highlight: the Merlins/Griffon/R2800 stand-alone engine run ups – amazing! The cleverist bit is having both Merlin rev counters on one control box. The boys did really well at the throttles – Dad’s you can be proud!
To think one of the Merlin’s was recovered from a 20′ under Beaufighter crash site, eek!
Word of warning for future reference -do NOT stand immediately behind them. I’m still scrubbing oil stains from my face!!!
Sometime (long ago) I remember seeing TWO JU 52S, Four t-28s and four B25’s at Blackbush. Can anyone remember approx when this would have been ????
Drove down from Prestwick for the IAT’79 (at Greenham Common) on 23rd June, then visited Blackbushe in the late afternoon before travelling back up the road.
Present were 4 Casa 352, 2 Mitchells(“Big Bad Bonnie” & “Georgeous George-Anne”), 5 Dak’s and 3 T-28’s (ex Moroccan AF).
On arriving back at Prestwick the next morning,at least 2 of the T-28’s (from memory) had followed, and were sitting on the ramp!
Ah, memories….:)
That is correct, part of the original License agreement between English Electric & Lockheed Martin stipulated that the B57 and varients thereafter must be called Canberra.
Bex
I’m sure I’ve seen a B-57 variant referred to as a “Night Intruder”, no?
After all the helpful advice I have got, I think Cosford will be on the cards. What is the name of the train station beside it. Their website says it’s Cosford Halt, but that station isn’t on the National Rail website, just Cosford.
One more question – is the lighting at Cosford better than Hendon?
How long a walk is it from the railway station to the actual museum?
If you goto http://www.thesmallscreen.org you can purchase SAC & Gathering Of Eagles on DVD. Neither of these films will ever be released officially on DVD according to my source. I purchased both these titles bout 2 weeks ago & they arrived in 4 days.
Are these titles presented in widescreen?
