To clear things up, David Walton has just informed us, the Board of Bangladesh Biman Airlines has decided that the aircraft will return to Dhaka for preservation after its pleasure flights from Birmingham, and it will not be coming to Bruntingthorpe at all.
Its last pleasure flight is scheduled to take off around 3.00 pm and land back at Birmingham around 4.00 pm on Monday, 24th February.
Hi Andy
Good to here from you, and thanks for getting back to us.
As you know Aviation has over the years brough both Max and myself a great deal of fun. So this year we have decided to do something a little different. Through out 2014 we will be displaying our little Chipmunk cockpit section at selected events, and we will be an official sponsor of the Leicester Hospitals Charity http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.u…s-raise-funds/ and in particular the Childrend Heart Unit at Glenfield Hospital.

Over the years we as a family have much to thank the University Hospitals of Leicester for, so it seem fitting that we give them a little support in return. So, at various events through out 2014 we will be displaying our little treasure, and displaying our support for the charity. This will basicaly meen we will be asking for a few coins in a collection box from those who might wish to support us, whilst having a bit of fun sitting in the old girl.
Although we are still firm supporters of Nev Martin and his Phoenix Aviation Museum and we still support the LPG and others in some small ways, we have not been to Bruntingthorpe at all for several years now, and are not sure how welcome we might be there. But we are considering the possibility of displaying our Chipmunk at some events there this year. That is why I want to make contact, but have lost track of who is who these days!!
Ritch and Max Blood.
Rich and Max,
Yeh like wise, no problem.
Nothing has changed in the LPG since you were last up at the Q shed, most people you knew up there are still around, few more areos around, but pretty much the same, we still go on a Saturday, both jets and the shed need our constant attention.
As far as we in the LPG are concerned you and Max are more than welcome any time, and Im sure DW will welcome you and the Chippy cockpit with open arms.
Give DW a call re the CWJs days and as far as Im concerned come along to our July day, you remember the score ? Just turn up on the Saturday, prep what ever you have and wait for the Sunday and the public to arrive, simple really;)
PM me if you need anymore info
Regards
Andy B

Paul,
I’ve answered the same question on FC but here goes;
1. No its a Scramble, (the crowd will be fenced in opposite the shed), they are not waiting on the runway. But there will be the opportunity to stand along the normal open day crowd line for the final Lightning runs (separately).
2.10ft from runway edge, and between end of runway and first intersection, approx. 400mtrs, and with restricted numbers, its not expected to be full.
3.No end of runway shots.
4.Canberra Hunter and Bucc will start on the runway opposite the crowd line as per usual open days.
5. Museum will be open for viewing.
Just a reminder about this coming Sunday, gates open at 11am, Double scramble at 13.00hrs from the QRA shed and then when the brakes have cooled enough a single run each from 728 and 904, probably around 15.00-16.00hrs
Pilots for the day, John Ward (728) and Dennis Brooks (904)
Come along and wander round the shed and have a chat with us all.
728 is now fully serviceable after nearly 4 years of in-depth engineering work.
Canberra, Hunter and one Bucc will also be running for us during the day.
Today, 24th June 2013 see’s a major mile stone in the LPGs history, 25 years ago we managed to obtain XR728, and she was flown into Bruntingthorpe from Binbrook
Here she is on that day on the Binbrook line
Chris Berners Price on his way
Leaving in style
Overhead Bruntingthorpe
Touch down
And finally with the LPG, safe and sound
We celebrated this in style last Saturday, 25 years later, Chris was back with us for the day and we practiced a double Q shed scramble in preparation for our public celebration on the 28th July, hope some on here can make it to witness our continued efforts to preserve a slice of Cold war history
Just a reminder, if any of you fancy coming to visit us today
Jan 1975, just after my 7th birthday, a 1:72 Aifix Lancaster, sat with my dad, on a modeling board Ive used every since, glueing everything then painting everything in sight ! 😮
And would you guess it !
Ive still got it !!!! 😉
Its wrapped up in newspaper in boxes in my loft along with many other areo models from that time in my life 😉
My 10 year old son has just found them all 😮
And thinks they are ‘brill dad’ 😉
So he has started to dig them out and hang them on the ceiling of his bedroom, like I did, but with some of his first airfix kits 🙂
I Might just dig whats left of it out and post a pic 😉
Johns correct thats Peter Orme in the orange flight suit.
Peter ended up being the last man to fly a Lightning the the UK, Jan 23rd 1993, XS904 to the LPG at Bruntingthorpe 😉
The other chap is Collin Rea on the occasion of his final Lightning sortie, 2nd June 1989, in F6 XP693.
If you watch the film closely,at the end just after Collin pops the cork, Jimmy Dell, RIP wanders into shot wearing a grey suit then stands chatting with him.
Lovely bit of flim 🙂
