Accidents?
Well, there have been several accidents in the Indian Navy that cannot be explained just by blaming the shipyards. For instance
2014 – INS Betwa, INS Airavat and INS Sindhughosh run aground
2013 – INS Talwar “sunk” a fishing ship
http://www.mumbaimirror.com/mumbai/crime/Two-arrested-after-INS-Talwar-collides-with-fishing-boat/articleshow/27870596.cms
2011 – INS Vindhyagiri collided with a merchant vessel and sunk

2010 – INS Sindhukesri and INS Sindhuratna collided
2006 – INS Prahar collided with a merchant vessel and sunk

To name just a few. Notice how several of these incidents have ended in a martial court with a guilty veredict

It seems everybody wins with the deal (DCN wins cash, the HN two brand new ships, the French government a break in its defense budget) except the MN which will be stuck with its aging ships for a few years more.
a smaller economy but no nuclear deterrent…
Hmmm… in any case it would take time and money to build such a capability. BTW, here´s a pic showing the current status of the only tanker ever to serve in the FAP
It is (was) a 707 converted by Bedek in the late 1980s IIRC
I wonder why were they fitted with IFR probes as Peru has no tankers. Maybe they plan to use them with buddy-buddy refueling pods?
Why do the Su-34s in the green/black color have a grill on their tail sting and the ones in the blue don’t?
IIRC that’s because they have an APU
Sorry my understanding is that Gao airport was taken by ground troops supported by air attacks and once the airport was held more troops were flown in to reinforce but nowhere I have read said that troops were helicopter in. please send me a photo or link to say they where many thanks
The best I can find about the operation is this
Au cours d’une manœuvre aéroterrestre conduite par les forces spéciales et appuyées par les forces aériennes, la zone de l’aéroport de Gao ainsi que le pont sur le Niger ont été saisis cette nuit.
To that Jonesy I would add the line a single deck capability that rarely strays far from Toulon naval base.
That hardly seems to be the case, for instance

What Argentina needs are the JF-17s.
How can you tell what they need? The military are an instrument of policy thus, arms acquisitions are planned according to how the country perceives the main threats to is security and to internal policy considerations, for instance, the relative importance of defense spending viz-a-viz other budget priorities. In this context I think it´s unidimensional to state that Argentina needs Chinese fighters to keep its non-aligned status.
There are several questions we need to ask first? Do these fighters fulfill their needs? What are these needs? Retaking the Falklands? Keeping Chile or Brazil at bay? Just patrolling its air space? How much money is the government willing to spend? Will Chinese fighters fit in with the existing infrastructure? With the existing doctrine? Is the government interested in such a strategic partnership? Or does it prefer closer defense ties with European countries? Etc, etc, etc.
Without answers for these I think it’s too risky to make assumptions such as the one quoted at the beginning of this post. BTW, a useful reading in this regard is the 2010 White Book at http://www.mindef.gob.ar/libro_blanco/Libro_Blanco_de_la_Defensa.pdf (in Spanish).

There’s a very nice article on Bolivian T-33s in the October 2012 issue of Combai Aircraft Monthly. You can check it out at zinio.com
Peruvian Mi-25D
Nice. It seems a handful of Peruvian Mi-25Ds have gone back into service to complement the new Mi-35s
not sure if exotic enough

comparison
Fair enough, I must have been thinking about earlier Otomat versions but you are right of course both models are more or less comparable, at least until Otomat gets its new engine. Even so SCALP remains an advantage for the French version. What is the view from Italy on their respective combat systems? The French seem quite proud about SETIS.
Hmmm… I think it all depends on who you ask. DCN might point out that building FREMMs on a budget has allowed France to order 11 vs maybe 6 for Italy. It might also point out that French units have 16 Scalp cruise missiles, a better antiship missile in the form of Exocet MM.40 Block 3, and a new design combat system: SETIS. BTW are you sure on the Italian FREMM fitting one NH90 and one EH101 in its hangars? I always thought it was only capable of 2 NH90s.
