    Hi all,

We at the Flight would like to thank those of you that have given us support during what has been a particularly challenging year at RNHF. I won’t comment on the incident any further than what has been posted on the RNHF Facebook page, other than to say we are relived that Chris is OK.

Just to put a few things to bed.

For those of you getting wrapped round the axle about surnames, it is Götke but everybody in the RN and the air display circuit know him by his nickname ‘Goaty’, which is probably where some of the misspelling confusion has arisen.

The Flight receives some funding from the RN which only pays for the SERCO contract that employs the civilian maintainers on the Flight. The rest of the funding comes from charitable donations made to the Fly Navy Heritage Trust (FNHT) which is the registered charity that fundraises for the Flight and provides grants to RNHF to pay for spares, overhauls, maintenance etc. If you wish to support the Flight the best way to do so, is to go to the FNHT website and sign up to become a member.

Once again many thanks for your support.

RNHF_PILOT, were you ever able to track down Mike Broadwater? If so, please would you let me know, here or PM is fine, as I would very much like to get in touch with him.

    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Mike Broadwater was one of the few pilots we never managed to track down. He has proved to be very elusive which is frustrating as I have heard he still lives in the area not far from Yeovil.

Then stick it all on a DVD so those of us saddo’s that wana watch it all can & it’ll earn abit extra for you guys :diablo:

I never meant to sound criticising, it’s just I for 1 wana watch footage from climbing in to climbing out of the cockpit!

This is something that we will probably be looking at doing next year. As with all these things it will take time to gather all the material required.

We’re glad that everybody has enjoyed the video.

To answer some of the criticisms that we won’t show the entire in cockpit footage, I’m afraid you won’t see a video of a whole flight for a number of reasons.

The sorties are generally too long and would take a massive amount of time to upload, plus the majority of people would get bored watching, as a considerable proportion of time in these sorties is either transit or holding time.

Quite often various parts of the footage are unusable due to vibration in the airframe at times, affecting the quality of footage. Over or underexposure of light as the aircraft manoeuvres and the camera adjusts to the changing light levels is also a problem. One of the other issues is the sound. Although most of these aircraft sound lovely to a spectator on the ground, that is not the reality in the cockpit. The Swordfish in particular is extremely noisy when the wind blast is added to the engine noise. The reality is that this sounds even worse as a recording than it does in person and tends to sound like horrible static which in my opinion would make the video difficult to watch.

The aim of this video was not show a Sea Fury display from the cockpit but to show a brief history celebrating 40 years of RNHF, plus give a taste of what it’s like in the aircraft. The video was done in a limited amount of time (4 hours!) with limited resource. However I think it has achieved the aim and the vast majority of feedback we have had about the video has been that they have enjoyed it and think that it is very professional. I am delighted with that result as I am neither a professional camera man or film director.

Being a military unit our output has to be of the highest standard with the resource available to us and putting out the raw footage of a display will not achieve that. Therefore any footage we post will have been edited to some degree to ensure the highest quality of media is displayed to the public.

We will be posting other videos in the future, however it takes time to gather the material and then edit it. All of which is done in our spare time as we don’t have a media company doing this on our behalf. We are all serving aircrew with service commitments, and with RNHF in our spare time we don’t have lot of extra spare time to put together these videos.

Please keep a look out for more videos in the near future and subscribe to our Facebook page and our YouTube channel to keep abreast of latest developments. For more detailed information then please visit our main website.

If you have any footage of us at displays, either both on the ground or in the air and it is HD 1080p quality and you would be prepared to let us use it in our future videos then please let me know via PM or email.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me so far with this project, I really appreciate it. I now have 88 names on the list and have managed to contact quite a few of our past aircrew and heard a few cracking dits from them in the process. There are a few I have not managed to get any details for, or been able to trace. Does anybody have contact details or know the whereabouts of the following aircrew?

    From RNHF:
    Paul Bootherstone
    Mike Broadwater
    Peter Burgess
    TC Evans
    John Lamb
    Ken Lamprey
    Ned Stone
    Tony White

The following aircrew flew the Swordfish prior to formation of RNHF in 1972.
    Bob Evans
    Mike Rudorf
    Geoff Shaw
    EJ Trounson

Please PM me if you have any details requested.

    Many thanks.

    Simon.

I have been in touch with Richard Wren recently regarding my list. I am hoping to hear from him in the New Year with more detail about his time with RNHF.

JDK, The list is starting to come along nicely. I have 67 names that span the history of the Flight and even some that pre-date it in the 1960-72 period, when the aircraft were operated by Heron Flight.

If any of you have any other recollections about past displays I’d love to hear them.

    Simon
