Weather is pretty much beyond anybody control. I remember going to Middle Wallop a few years ago where the MATS connie made its debut? Cloud was about 200ft in drizzle. Only fixed wing that attempted flight was a Tornado which was heard flying past!
Personally I hate the Biggin shows. As a spotter they used to be brilliant when I first went in the late 70’s. Interesting static line up, loads of visiting aircraft parked along the crowdline(in the days when the tower side was RAF only) and all the hangars open. I last went about 7 years ago with almost no static, visitors parked miles away and all hangars shut.
I am going to RIAT this year for the first time in about 8 years. This is because of all the non modern mil aircraft they are having. As for sitting in the car park for hours I will be gone to Kemble by two. I am one of those strange beasts-the spotter. The only aircraft that would make me stay for the flying would be the Vulcan-as for the rest you have seen one F16 fly you have seen tham all.

CDG has more flights and less pax because many of the flights are operated by Embraer 145’s,146’s and CRJ’s. Every city in France wants a link with Paris so there are loads of internal flights. They have given up on Orly( aaahh TAT Fh-227’s,Nord 262’s those were the days!).So they are only bringing in 30-80 pax each time. Anything smaller than a A319 is a rare sight at the ‘row.

Hi the 737’s are operated by ‘EG&G Group’ for the department of the airforce. There are 6, one (N4529W) is a 737-247, the other 5
(N5175U,N5176Y,N5177C,N5294E,N5294M) are ex USAF T-43A’s. But don’t ask too many questions about them!!!

It was indeed used by the UN weapons inspectors. I can’t remember the reg, just that it was South African. It was featured several times on the news at the time. Guess its back in SA by now?

Been to a few duff shows back in the days before the net took the anticipation out of what was there.
A show at Benson in the late 80’s was one. Only good thing was the Me109 later G-USTV when it was still being restored by the RAf and first time it had seen the light of day in years. The static was Me109,Andover,Chipmunk,Bulldog, Tornado,Puma and a Wessex.Flying 3 tornados, Andover and 2 Hawks.
Went to one at Upper Heyford around 1982 that only had about 10 static, mostly F111’s didn’t stay for the flying.
The ones I have enjoyed the most were the TVS shows at Hurn the the 80’s, Greenham Common and the small shows at Fairoaks in the late 70’s. All before comercialisation and when shows like the IAT were a real treat that you eagily waited two years for.

One small thing a C-45 is the military equivlent of a Beech 18 8 seater twin. The ‘daks were even C-47’s or C-53’s.Most of the films I have seen from WW2 just involve shoving out everything out the door as quick as possable!

As a 7days a week spotter/enthusiast it has affected my life greatly. Lost more relationships to football(winter interest) than aircraft. I think somebody is not right for you if they will not tolerate your hobbies. I have a busy period coming up with PFA/Flying Legends one weekend and RIAT shortly after but my girlfriend uses these weekends to visit old friends. It helps that she works for BAESYSTEMS, her late grandad also worked as a designer at Vickers for 30 years.
As for friends I just don’t tell some of them as ‘spotting’ in particular is looked on as a sad hobby, but not something I feel ashamed of.
Use of own time-vist Farnborough 3 times a day in the week, normally elsewhere at weekends.Popham is my summer home.
As for collecting I have a loft full of books and photos. My current fobsession is ‘The Aeroplane spotter’ magazine. Have almost the entire post ware issues(1945-1948).
What you’ve really got into-I am really a civil orientated enthusiast. Think the whole historic scene is far too military biased. Dream is for somebody to find the Handley Page HP42 that was lost id the desert in the 30’s. Also for somebody to convert a Lancaster into a Lancastrian of BSAAC!!!

Sounds like a good old C.I. tax fiddle to me.Many intersting aircraft have been registered in Jersey over the tears including a Twin Mustang, IL2’s, and a couple of Mil8’s,,which mostly never reached these shores sadly.

As a newbie to this board I was facisnated by this . I heard about these tunnels about 15 years ago and scoffed! It was said to me that they were in the Alton area and contained Hunters,Meteors and Sabers. The guess was that one of the then proliferant scarpies(perhaps Staravia from Lasham) used these tunnels as stores?
From the same source I was told that at the end of WWII B-17’s were buried in a field near Mitcheldever(near Popham), but we have all heard stories like that!

I live at Farnborough and this is my first post on this board after Reading it for a while.
There are now 3 F100’s, G-MANH is is Holland for fitting out,G-MABH will follow it when it returns and N856US arrived on Tursday with one more to follow. They are going to be operated by ARAVCO but for who I don’t know. I do know one is for one induvigal and another for his wife and family(good idea!) and two to be leased out on an ad hoc basis.
Don’t tell the locals about these, they still complain about BBJ’S!
