They are really looking into the Secondry Cooling Pack theory at the mo. There are major resrictions on using it after XV230’s crash.
Will try to keep you all updated as i find out things.
The lads arrived back in the UK today.
Was a very somber time on the base whilst the re-patriations were taking place. The station is going to be putting up a memorial to the 14 crew members.
There are a couple of theories being looked into at the mo. One is a broken fuel pipe at rib 1 and the other is a hot air leak from the secondry cooling pack.
The bodies are coming home soon and the station is gearing up for the funerals. Sad time to be on the unit. 🙁
The papers would be correct
Flounder.
Sorry to hear of the massive job cuts at Lossie. It must be a bit depressing up there at the moment.
As far as we know at the moment it is only the second line support bays that are going and a few personel off the squadrons. But the local area is going to be hit hard by us leaving. They hate us whilst we are here but when they go they miss us 😉 lol
Mostly from the squadrons it is going to be ‘first in, first out’

It transpires that Sqn Ldr Boggis is a member of the XV association so will be coming to our anniversary after all. It looks like Donald Jeffs and Peter will finally meet after all these years again. Has brightened up my day knowing this 🙂
As for you saying that you have seen the MacRoberts Reply aircraft on the ground when you last visited Lossie. Well it is getting painted for the anniversary (like 12 and 14 Sqns have) and will be on display for the public during the station open day on the 21st May. Come along if you can.
Hi and welcome flounder al. Is it a particular MacRoberts Reply you are looking for info on or just MacRoberts Reply in general?
I was looking in general but i have now found the MacRoberts Reply website so all the info i needed was there.
I have invited the survivor (Sgt Donald Jeffs) of the Shorts Stirlings (W7531) crash to XV Sqn’s 90th anniversary in May just after he has visited the memorial over in Denmark. I thought it was the least i could do as the aircraft is a big bit of my squadrons history. And also it will give him a chance to see the Tornado GR4 painted with the MacRoberts Reply shield on it.
We also have the pilot (Sqn Ldr Boggis) of the first Shorts Stirling (N6086) that was bought by Lady MacRoberts coming to the anniversary bash as well. Should be a good night all around.
2 seat Hunter, probably WV372 – lovely. 🙂
My dad would have the same. Hunter NF Mk.6 in 26 Sqn colours would be his choice, closely followed by a Mosquito Mk.2 like myself 🙂
Thankyou for the welcome. Originally from Winterton myself but now live up by RAF Lossiemouth 🙂
If money was no object then i would have to have a De Havilland Mosquito Mk.2, FW190A or a Hawker Hurricane Mk.1.
All beautiful aircraft and not in the limelight as like the Spitfire or Mustang are.

As lovely as ‘TA’ looks there flying above your home town i just have to add that the aircraft is a real pain to work on. For some reason it just doesn’t like being serviceable :diablo:
Still lovely to watch though
