Maybe FC-1 and CY-1 situation is same as JJ-9 and L-15.
L-15 suppose to be superior in terms of everything from FBW, LERX and a turbo fan engine but a more expensive price tag. Instead PLAAF opt for JJ-9 for it full domestic and cheaper price tag compare to L-15.
Shall CY-1 able to go under 15-20 million USD. It might favour PLAAF to adopt it since engine will not be a problem becos of WP-14/WP13.
Na….I just don’t think so…
Near future would be J-10/J-11/JH-7 upgraded/redesigned variants (and next-gen fighters (J-XX etc) and bomber further out). For the moment, J-7G2, J-8F, Q-5L would fill in those gaps. PLA-AF/NAF will reduce types and number significantly as time progresses. Smaller yet more lethal.
Eh?
all this economics is giving me a headache….
anyway….. thought i’ll put something to lighten things up…

Composites are ok and all that, but composites are not very good dealing with compressive forces, well, many materials have relative bad performance under compression, but composites are specially bad because the fibers can only have determined orientations, i think depends a lot on the resin, but is not like the resin is concrete 😀

So in laymen’s terms…..they are brittle?

Yes, it’s just a demonstrative model. Looks like a waste of time IMO.
Trying to target a particular market. Like I said, FC-1 itself costs 15-20 Million USD. Its not going enter the PLA forces. Even the FC-1 now doesn’t seem to be having a place in the PLA forces.
a bunch of pics from the far kazakhstan… :p

WOW! NICE!!

Looking at the pictures on that site, it doesnt look like a real aircraft, but a RC model to me!
Im not sure about the bent down tailplanes?!?! And someone please explain the er… sideways fin along the fuselage?
Is it meant to create a vortex over the top of the wing to re-energise flow?
I am with you on that…..
That was my 1st impression too….
The internal bay of the F-23 was HUGE!!!
Exactly……and why did they NOT select it..? Had something to do with commonality with the NATF-22? YF-22 said to be less complex than the YF-23? And the USN off-course cancelled the NATF!
Its quite bizarre! They selected the YF-22 over the YF-23 (though it had a much deeper weapons bay and correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t the YF-23 design itself have more room for a dedicated version like a “FB-23”?) and in the end, one reason for cancellation of a the F-22 is her poor A-G munitions capability.
Now thats a fiasco!
Just imagine a USAF fly-past with a B-2 flanked by F-23 and a FB-23! Now that would have been a sight!
Its an attempt at a cheap replacement for the J-7 variants IIRC. There are lot of J-7/MiG-21 users worldwide. Even the FC-1 cost what?…15 – 20 million USD? This is a much cheaper alternative. Doesn’t have any FBW, but uses added control surface. No turbofan. Probably the Kunlun-II and so on….

FWS10 engine on display at the China Aviation Museum
But, sadly NO good news regarding it serious reliability issues. Other than that they are working ‘full-throttle’, no specifics.
