In the long term, China knows the limitations of a ski-jump for a big aircraft. they know the failures of the su-33. thats why they are trying to eventually build up to a catapult system. but this may take time

The J-15 will work fine with a ski-jump. The main need for a catapult is to launch carrier based fixed wing AEW. Unlike the Kuznetsov-class, the Ulyanovsk-class would have had a ski-jump and 2x catapults to launch Yak-44 AEW. It appears that the Project 23000E will also have similar arrangement. Ski-jump for naval T-50, em-cats for fixed wing AEW. If there was only a ski-jump, then those carriers will be limited to Helo based AEW like the Z-18J or Ka-31.

It was rumored in July 2016 that a prototype of the CATOBAR variant (J-15A? #5xx) just for the first time, powered by two indigenous WS-10H engines. An AESA radar might have been installed as well.

A folding fin missile is probably needed. They probably require ASRAAM/A-Darter, or that proposed K-30 like missile. In-fact shorter version of the folding-fin R-77 could fit.
