F-22 is visible on S-400 radar. If you can see it, so can radar.
Huh?
Do you propose that the fighter component of the air force be shut down for a time? That reminds me of the Brits (I’m one of them) scrapping fixed-wing carrier operations for a few years.
Yup. We don’t need fighter jets right now right now. Militarily what we need is better intelligence and special units to prevent any further uprisings combined with actual hard, concrete reconciliation efforts since the people in the north simply don’t trust politicians in the south. Heck, I don’t trust our politicians either. If the economy pics up in the near future then maybe. But right now the amount debt that has piled up is getting scary. I just hope we don’t go down the road of Greece.
As Combat Aircraft Fleet Atrophies, Sri Lanka Seeks New Fighters
Down to
1/7 Kfir operational
0/7 MiG-27 operationalaccording to the article at http://www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/release/3/176259/as-combat-aircraft-fleet-atrophies%2C-sri-lanka-seeks-new-fighters.html
Which manufacturers/governments are likely to come to the rescue? Has France got any F1’s due for retirement? Is the Swedish government prepared to part with any Gripens? Is China most likely to be the supplier?
JF-17 appears to be off the table (thank goodness). More importantly, we are broke right now. People are going to be royally pissed if the govt spends hundreds of millions of dollars on combat A/C. Even our disabled war-vets protested the lack of support recently. Not supporting your vets is literally sacrilege in any nation. China could give us for free fighters similar to F-7BGI. Even the F-7GS armed with PL-5E were gifts.
So, unless the the Chinese gives us further upgraded J-7G variants (hypothetical F-7GSI++) or US gives use some 2nd hand F-16 along with training and support for free, I don’t know how the SLAF is going get new fighters. They better not spend $100+ million on fancy new jets or I myself will be pelting a few eggs and vegetables at our politicians. A far more re-conciliatory move would be to use that money to compensate disabled LTTE combatants and war-widows. There are thousands of war widows in the north alone.
At the risk of becoming flame-bate, but I thought its worth posting:
Air Force Chief of Staff, 4-star General David L. Goldfein, claims comparing F-35 to J-20 (and others) is irrelevant and more relevant comparison would be to the F-117.

Hmm, interesting. Well he did warn potential adversaries saying “It sucks to be you” sometime back.
Video with annoyingly short glimpses from clearly longer, interesting shots of PAK-FA, MiG-29KR, and others:
:eek::eek: :eek::eek: :love-struck:
Goosebumps time!
EDIT:
Whats the name of the background music?
Since there was some talk about the Type-1475 AESA, I thought I’ll post this:

CV-16

Moving from PAK-FA thread as it is off topic there.
Vastly vastly disagree. (Yes, he asked about “on first glance” but the comparison is vs T-50 info)
– Yes, we know the number of J-20’s flown. Which doesnt mean much at all as that is true for every 5’th gen fighter.
– Unless i have missed some vital information, we dont know their serials, atleast the true ones. Bort number =/= serial. 053 on T-50 is not a serial number.
– We only know minimal about differences and modifications J-20 has underwent and it is all completely based on pictures, which again, can be said for every 5’th gen fighter.
– Hazy shots of cockpit and grainy pictures of supposed AESA radar don’t mean a jack. It doesnt count as information in my eyes.
– The estimated figures are… estimated. And as far as i know, nothing official, ie complete guesses. The same way some guess Izd.30 will be a 19 tonnes monster. Again, not information. In short; for all intents and purposes absolutely all J-20 and J-31 information is based on pictures.
IIRC, there are no officially released specs for the J-20, including simple stuff like width, length, etc. J-10 was declared operational late 2003 but official specs were not released until late 2006. So it is very unlikely we will see any official specs for the LRIP J-20 anytime soon.
Regarding the J-31, well, it is an SAC/AVIC project. Not sure whether PLAAF has shown any interest in the J-31 whatsoever.
And, guess who is steadily progressing,

PS:
Sad news. 1st fatality of PRC’s carrier program occurred on the 27th of April 2016. #117 crashed during a ground landing (not a carrier landing) killing the pilot.

sooner than you think lol

Official photos of #01 & #02 entering PLAAF:

They mentioned 500 km not 600 km and yes at hi-hi profile (Which indeed seems to be unlocked for the hindu’s). But it’s still limited compared to Onyx. Oddly enough the South Koreans seems to have gotten tech transfer from Russians derived from Onyx ramjet from the looks of it.
Very inappropriate…
Update from Hui Tong (Chinese Military Aviation) : http://chinese-military-aviation.blogspot.com/2012/07/fighters_18.html#J-20
…
The latest images (December 2015) indicated that a new J-20 in yellow primer was built which is likely to be the first LRIP model (2101). First flight took place on January 18, 2016. More LRIP J-20s are being built in 2016, wearing a gray color scheme. In the meantime J-20 prototypes have been undergoing weapon launch tests including lunching PL-15 AAMs
