Given a non-captive, open market anyone opting for the F-35 over this beauty needs their head examining…

good one… and agreed
Problem now with WS-10 seems to be they can’t make enough of them.
Yup this seems to be the problem. But the fact that a J-10B with WS-10 is being tested shows even CAC has some confidence in the engine (J-10 being single engined unlike the J-11 variants).
Yes, you are right.
J-11A/B cant use AL-31FN.
They uses AL-31F, same with J-15.
J-11/J-11A use AL-31F and will continue to receive parts/spares from the Russians since they are part of the contract. Su-27SK/UBK, Su-30MKK/MK2 will also receive spare etc. J-11B isn’t part of the the contract. The very 1st few J-11B actually had WS-10 but were quickly grounded. After that all batch 1 J-11B flew with AL-31F (rumoured to use salvaged engines from the retired very 1st Su-27SK ). WS-10 problem seem to have been solved. All new J-11B/BS and the naval J-11BH/BSH fly with WS-10B, and importantly J-15 also flies with WS-10.
1st attachment is the J-15 with AL-31F
2nd, 3rd, 4th J-15 with WS-10 variant,
5th is J-11BSH with WS-10 variant
J-11, J-11A.
J-10A, J-10B.Allthough i read the J-15 also field some AL-31FNs..
J-11/15 can’t use AL-31FN. For one there’s the gears box issues and all the AL-31FN are for Chengdu and not Shenyang. Shenyang will NOT get any engines for J-11B, J-15 and those variants. They get spares and new ones for the Su-27/30/J-11/11A, but thats it. The very first J-15 flew with AL-31F (second hand?). The the latest images showed J-15 powered by WS-10 (one with they light-gray camo).
Would that be J-10A or J-10B or both ?
J-10/J-10A definitely AL-31FN
J-10B is bit of a mystery. Accoding to Hui Tong J-10B will initially be powered by the AL-31FN and eventually WS-10.
I’ve said this before, but I’ll repeat,… Chengdu doesn’t have the same engine problem like Shenyang. Chengdu can use Russian engines on for example, FC-1, J-10, possibly J-20 and so on. Same doesn’t apply to Shenyang.
Not surprising. Only the J-11B/BH/BS/BSH and J-15 use non-Russian engines. The J-10 will be using AL-31FN or upgraded variants for some time.
People, any news on this?
From Hui Tong : Link (Expected to be delivered within 2011)
It almost looks like an Airbus wing on a C-17.
My thoughts exactly…
Looks like a C-17 than anything else…
Pure BS
Oh well….. Thats another bubble burst then…..
PS:
Any new details/drawings of the blocker? Is the blocker the same diameter as the compressor or is it smaller?
Ok, I did some measurements myself using the Google Earth image. Tried to reduce the blurring, changed the rotations so they align as straight as possible, and as usual a dead end 😀
Remember there is K-8 in that image as well.
J-20 to J-10 (16.43m) : 19.7m – 19.8m (roughly)
J-20 to K-8 (11.6m) : 22m – 23m (roughly) (this value should make emile happy :D:p)
my dear cheeseburger,
what be these values?
Well my dear Hotdog (whats the special dressing),
Length : 16.43m, Width : 9.75m, Height : 5.43m
Few more are here : Link
This was released in 2009 during the one of the 60th anniversary events. Off-course there are plenty we don’t know. Weapons load? Ferry range? Combat radius? Hotdog storage (for ultra-long mission) etc, etc…. Not to mention any official specs for its RADAR and other systems.
People are still eyeballing J-20 dimensions, good good
Some things to note :
J-10 1st flight : March 23, 1998
Officially declassified : December 29, 2006
1st official values for the J-10 dimensions : 2009 😮
J-20 1st flight : January 11, 2011. So when are you going to get the official figures?
Until then people, good luck!
Happy hunting or should I say happy eyeballing
PS:
Lets see who gets the closest value
PPS:
To Amiga500, I hope waiting for J-20 stats won’t be like waiting Bulldozer benchmarks
At least on these pics, the LEVCONS are positioned differently from each
other..
Grrrrrrrrrrrr……..
They covered the intakes :mad::o
