See the hot air flux at her tail, the bird is testing her engines for final thrust to the sky
Has it been confirmed that it carries the 117S? I just have my doubts that the Russians would allow the sale of the 117S. I mean this not like an RD-93 sale…
611 won the contract in August of 2008 and they (611) were obviously doing some work on this thing before 2010 so where is this 8 month date coming from?
…
I think its from here – http://cnair.top81.cn/J-10_J-11_FC-1.htm
Off-course this is not an official site, and these are rumours but Hui Tong (author of the site) has often been proven reliable.
…
In August 2008 it was reported that 611 Institute was selected to be the main contractor for the development of J-20 and 601 Institute as the sub-contractor. Subsequently a full-scale metal mockup was built at CAC. One rumor in May 2010 claimed that 611 Institute started to construct the first prototype, which was expected to fly by the end of 2010, even though the full configuration model won’t fly until a few years later. The latest news indicated that the first two prototypes (#2001 & 2002) have been constructed and the first high-speed taxiing trial by 2001 took place on December 22, 2010
Soo excatly how can it be so fast with engines thrust no better than 117M engines and given the airframe layout, i cant see it beeing optimized for more speed than the Pak-Fa prototype yet?
I don’t think he is talking about aircraft speeds (Mach numbers) or aircraft capabilities., etc etc….
Think he is talking about ‘construction’ speed. If this indeed flies very soon, then thats a big surprise. I didn’t expect that until mid to late 2011 or even 2012.
The residents around the airfield have prepared chairs and tea cups for watching the maiden flight. The entertainment is not free, you konw.;)

LOL! š
Can’t say I like it. It’s unproportionally long with very small tails.
Looks like knife fight won’t be its favorite discipline.Looks like Chinese have decided to take a different path, let’s see how it works out.
One rumour was that they wanted to get rid of the tail altogether š® and rely on TVC only (similar to the MD/NG JSF concept) but in the end had decided to go with a small tail.
The size of this thing is kinda freighting. Unfortunately, the 17,000+ kg large thrust engine (WS-15?) won’t be ready for at least another 5 years (probably 7 – 10 years).

that thing is huge…..
Not Hot Dog but a Long Dog :p
Remember this? I think this appeared back in 2001. I can remember the shower of photoshop claims/insults for several years but she proved everyone wrong. I hope this blurry image of the alleged JXX goes down the same road.
How long did it take for the 1st clear J-10 photos to emerge?
Looks more like WS-10A. Since operational J-11B already running on WS-10A. I both see why they don’t have confident on WS-10A running on J-20. Since its twin engine, so safety shall be ok for it
Even though the FWS-10 has entered service with the J-11B/BS(BH-BSH) IMHO its too risky to be fitted into a prototype plane. Especially something like the J-20. Remember the J-15 prototype flies with AL-31F.
More likely they’ll fly with an engine by MMPP Salut until the WS-15 is ready. I don’t think it’ll be an engine by Saturn. Salut has already worked with CAC. They made the AL-31FN specially for the J-10. Hui Tong mentions an engine by them in the 14,000kg class
So…..by the looks of it….. some of these old *hints* we have been getting over the years aren’t too far off…

Pinko,
Any rumours on what the canards look like? Is it the forward swept ones like in the H4B-A3-2 or the more conventional ones?
Possibility that the engines in the J-20 will be the 18-tonne thrust class WS-15, that will have 3d vectoring nozzles – like the nozzle being tested here at one of AVIC’s engine design institutes (probably in Shenyang)
Eh?
Thats the GE Axisymmetric Vectoring Exhaust Nozzle (AVEN), used on the F-16 MATV
