I think now they are overhauled in SL. MiG-27s have been around since 2000.
Yup…. agreed…
that pretty much says it
In the Northrop NATF proposal the Canards were above the main wing. From the rumors flying around, and I think the deputy PLAAF chief himself stated canards and main wing will be in the same level and sort of a blended design. I am thinking more in the lines of an X-36 rather than NATF proposal.
But anyway…..we’ll just have be patient until some official illustration comes out. I hope I won’t be disappointed…
*Fingers Crossed*
These pictures to me seem the closest to a reality
The 1st image you posted is a follow-on to the JH-7/7A. Some have dubbed it JH-7B – Link. This is a project by XAC.
The 2nd image you posted is a follow-on to the J-15 (shipborne variant of the J-11B) from SAC
None of those are by CAC who won the contract for the J-XX. Very strictly speaking there are NO official images of the J-XX. Certain requirements have been stated officially such as All-Aspect Stealth, supercruise Mach 1.5+, will be some sort of delta-canard etc… But no images
There have been some fan-art that is said to resemble the real thing from the top (for example, the images Deino posted). But these are from internet posters who claim they know someone from the inside. Whether it represents reality or not is another matter…
Following the most reliable – at least as such expected – sources it should look similar to this …. and it is rumoured to be called J-20.
Deino
It is rumored to look like that only from the TOP. We still have no comments (officially or unofficially) when it come the other angles. What’s the intake arrangement like? Whats the weapons-bay like etc, etc…
Well my personal pick is the below image for illustrating the upcoming J-XX(J-20?)
[img*] http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a184/Military_Pictures/20080926231536β¦]The only thing I donβt agree on the above J-xx picture is the vertical tail in the picture is too tall. Otherwise, the image duly reflects the following J-XX characteristics:
Canard, lERX, DSI, lifting body with short vertical tail.
Besides: the frontal view of the plane really looks like a “FROG”Probably it’s the reason that J-xx is nicknamed as ” FROG” among Chinese fans.
But isn’t it supposed to be small. From the rumor-mill J-xx/J-20 compared to the F-22 is said the have a smaller all-moving vertical tail?
Correct, its all part of the RuAF requirments for the new front line fighter.
Long endurance & huge fuel capasity, high lift for operating in high altetude.
Internal weapons bay contribute for even longer mission range(less drag/rcs).All in all good overall features;)
Thanks
Not to mentions good looks….
There were a number of images that popped up a while back from some Chinese demo something-or-other about future aircraft design. The one thing in common that all of the 3D models shown was that they all held a resemblance to the Mig 1.44 Demonstrator of some sort.
Apparently those were initial test subjects by CAC & SAC – Link. Check out the separate folders for CAC, SAC. The MiG 1.42 like design was one them.
But it seem those were just very early stuff and pretty much mute now. What does the thing actually look like? Well…. hopefully that’ll be revealed in the near future.
The things that were officially stated were need for All-Aspect-Stealth and supercruise with an internal load at Mach 1.5+. It’ll be a delta-canard (canards and main wing in the same level. Canards won’t be above the main with like the J-10/MiG-1.42).
So again… we will have to be patient
Hello,
I am aware that this may be covered at some point in the past, but please endulge me.
The rumoured Chinese Stealth Fighter project, is this real or just an extension of logic?
I have seen images of very attractive UCAV designs from China but no real information on an actual fighter design.?
.
.
.
Its very very real. Known for quite sometime and IIRC last year the Deputy PLAAF chief himself confirmed it during a CCTV interview. All-Aspect Stealth, 1.5+ supercruise with an internal load. These 2 seem to be the 2 main points.
Other than that,
Rumored to have a highly blended profile. Will be a delta-canard but canards and main wing will be in the same level to preserve stealthiness (not like the J-10 or MiG 1.42).
Some rumors put it as a very long flat triangle with wings. Like a cross between a F-22, YF-23, X-36. At one point its rumored that they wanted to eliminate the tail altogether but now will have small all moving V-shape tail-fin.
But specifics are sketchy to say the least….. We’ll just have to be patient…
I like the look of the JF-17. Sleek and sharp. I read somewhere that one will participate at this years Farnborough. I hope it’s true!:)

Great stuff (as usual) robban
Could you add the J-10B as well…
any Idea what those are?
they need Typhoons in order to take back Gwadar from Pakistan.
They also need Typhoons against Bulgaria. Very unlikely threat but you never know!
π
Clearly Bulgaria is the biggest threat :p
I found that here:
http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.107.177&rep=rep1&type=pdfand my head is still hurting from the levels of mathematics involved π
The funniest thing I saw was on the title page:
Why is someone getting a Doctorate in Philosophy writing a paper dealing with high levels of Mathematics and Engineering.
WOW! The arrogance you are showing here is quite shocking…..
Since when did a Doctor of Philosophy (In short known as a PhD) automatically become a Doctorate In Philosophy?
A simple google search would have helped you :
