Well spotted! The badge reads DH GOBLIN.I had one in my collection for a while.Pesumably the proximity of the airfield made the badge easily obtainable.Either that or Henry Ford had started experimenting with jet propulsion for his tractors-the paint job on the plough wouldnt last long though.

I have a rather nice general arrangement drawing in a frame of a Hart 2 -drawing number E.20140 which I want to dispose of. Anyone on this forum have ideas on value or can recommend a suitable auctioneer? Picture attached

On the Western side. Directly opposite the lane which takes you down to the SLG bungalow is a large field, beyond which is Barnsley Wold wood. The Western edge of this wood is Barnsley Warren, a site of SSSI. If you look on Google Maps in theory it is easy to spot a number of large trees in the open on the Northern extremities, on of which is the Oak tree. In practice the area is quite overgrown now.

Clearly out my loft today, I have come across the few artefacts I picked up 30 years ago at Barnsley Wold. Photo attached. Shame that the rest of the wreckage seems to have gone.259101

Rather low over Malmesbury Flanker Man-looks like a Bulldog you were in judging by the flush fit filler cap.

I’ll just put my anorak away………

Just arrived back in the Kemble circuit.

Will it be ferried to Jordan?

The Blenheim in the Severn is about 1 mile off Lydney pier. Serial L1471, it surfaces from the sand occasionally. I have a 1975 picture of it, complete, but the tail had been pulled off during a recovery attempt. I doubt whether there will be much left 40 years on.

The Randwick Wellington is W5705, crashed 29th Jan 1943. The pond it went into (vertically I think) was quite small, and had been filled in for many years when I last visited the farm on business in the mid 1970’s.

If you think that flying into CP just the once is feasible, and you have the contacts, then please go ahead and look in to it. From my perspective, one of the members of our flying club has lots of Tiger Moth hours, and as we are local, could take a look at the surface before we commit.

Personally, I look after a Cotswold strip, and last year we had a small fly in . Of the 20 or so visitors, most had to park/taxi on mown stubble, so as long as the surface as smooth and dry it is doeable.

Would be great if we could put something together!

Has anyone spoken to the landowner? Even if it was not feasible to reopen as an airfield, how good would it be if the two surviving Tiger Moths from EFTS days were able to fly in as a one off.

Post harvest, i.e. early September a runway could be cleared with a tractor and finishing mower by skimming the stubble in a couple of hours.

I walked the site last September and there is plenty of length with flat open approaches.

As a former member of CARG ( way back in the early days) and one who was instrumental in collecting some of the Aston Down ‘stash’, what became of the Lanc DV panel?

ISTR we had in the CARG store at the same time a P51B side window, which was rescued from a certain Wiltshire scrap yard.

Is the ‘other’ Halifax column the one that changed hands in a Norfolk auction a few years back?

At one time Tony had a glazed Halifax nose cone-all complete but cracks to the Perspex- I wonder what happened to that?

The oak tree is actually on Barnsley Wold. We did an initial recce in a C152 from Staverton-early 1986 I think and the tree stood out very well.

Same trip we did a low level run over a scrapyard in Crudwell rumoured to have a Whirlwind helicopter in situ, but saw nothing. Happy days.

I have only just discovered this thread, hence the late reply.

The aircraft in question is indeed G-AHBK-impressed as K8308 and used by the EA Flight at Collyweston during the war. It was on a trip from Fairoaks to South Marston when it crashed in June 1947. It must have been some way north of track.

I visited the site around 30 years ago and there was a pile of rusted tubing and wreckage at the base of a very large oak tree in the middle of the wold. No sign of engines or undercarriage though.

I know this to be the right aircraft as I still have an underwing inspection panel with GAL inspectors stamp (interestingly marked ST10) and a section of cowling rail plus a stainless steel three way valve which I picked up at the time.

I did revisit the site a few years back but many years of growth has made it impossible to relocate the tree-the tubing may still be there.

Who knows? Lot of recent investment in new lighting etc (£500,000 has been mentioned) and it is now very busy with GA, six resident clubs.

This all came up a few years ago I seem to remember, one of the issues is that it sits astride Wiltshire and Cotswold District Councils which at that time had differing views on redeveloping the site.

Great, thank you. Overflew my house at 14.45 in the climb out.

    Will the others follow?
