The aircraft you would have seen at Staverton would almost certainly have been a Piston Provost. In those days CARG used to host a Miles/Percival fly in with a trophy for the best turned out visitor. There was several Piston Provosts there that year and on departure one refused to start. Eric Lambert, our tame engineer attempted to hand swing the Leonides, but all that happened was a series of pops and bangs from the exhaust which would sound like a cartridge start.
We were all convinced that Eric would come to a sticky end,I cannot remember what happened ultimately, but I think the aircraft was still there the next day.
The Halifax column looks very much like the one that was sold by Horners at their December sale in 2010 for £1300.
Forgot to mention-the B36 parts consist of Curtiss Wright electric propeller internals, mainly gears, bearings and odd shaped valves!

I will draw up an inventory, hopefully later this week.To clarify, the scrappie was contracted to dismantle the engines(and the B36 parts) and the metal once catagorised, was returned to Rolls Royce or wherever. The Lincolns 68a’s were delivered as power eggs complete and I also have some small parts to include a mesh ice guard, and sundry fittings. If there is sufficient value in the lot,I would probably sell to put the money towards another project.

Not guilty, your honour. These plates emanated from a long retired scrappie near Gloucester about 30 years ago.I also have various patent plates and a quantity of propeller internals from the B36 that crashed near Lacock.About a ton of Merlin parts made their way to Coningsby from the same source. The contents of his workshop were truly amazing(spares for 1920’s Rolls Royces anyone?)The log cards I do have show just over 31 hours usage on Lincolns before scrapping-some engines were reputedly brand new….

On the subject of Typhoon cockpits, there were 2 in Bucklands scrapyard just outside Cheltenham in the early 1980’s.Did they both survive?
All the Herc squadrons are moving to Brize in July, not May.The airfield will remain open for some time afterwards.A number of Ks (8?)will transfer to Brize until OSD of 2012.The 3 Hercs being scrapped at present have been out of use for a long time(217,220 and 305).Hope this is of help.
Wasnt there a hand painted sign at the entrance to the coal yard which was inscribed ‘RAF St Pancreas’? I am sure there is a photo in exsistence of it somewhere.
No photos unfortunately.I could never understand how the scrapman made a living when a huge percentage of his premises was taken up with bent Beverleys for over twenty years.Last time I visited sundry crew seats and other small parts were stored in various places around the yard.Would be nice to know if any of this survived?
Last time I visited was the late 80’s,however Google Earth images showed up some large chunks, presumably Beverley,up until last year

Canberra WE142
Hi,
Just found your web site and found it very informative.I am disposing of part of my aviation artefact collection and one of the items is the nose skinning from WE142 with the ‘London-Christchurch’ inscription on it.I hope this will be of interest to someone. It is on e bay at the moment.I am hoping to dig out a photo of WE142 at Heathrow prior to the start of the race.
As an aside Flowers Yard also had some Bristol Hercules exhaust collector rings, which i believe went to Canada in 1995/96 and now reside on Halifax NA337.
