RE: A new belgian carrier…
That is great, at least that fact that DAT have more or less survived is. It will be such a shame to see the loss of the Sabena name and logo. I just hope that DAT take over all Sabena’s flights to Britain because I have no intention of ever going with Virgin Express.
RE: Regional Airliners
The Avro RJ/146 is the best regional jet, the best regoinal prop is the F27/50. I cannot comment on the Dash or ATR.
RE: CDG-A huge dissappointment!
I agree, CDG is not a patch on other airports. I was in terminal 2, and the photo and video opportunities were non-existant owing to the dreadful lack of viewing areas. That terminal was poorly served for shops and restaurants. Give me Brussels or Heathrow or LAX anyday.
RE: Crossing the Atlantic Ocean with two engines
American Airlines have regularly used the A300 on flights between the United States and Heathrow, Jamaica Airlines used Airbuses, so trans Atlantic Airbus flights aren’t all that unusual.
RE: “Ghost Jumbo”
This aircraft has been a regular visitor to Manchester this year, it has certainly been there each time I’ve been. I was wondering about its origins too, I could only make out that it was an Icelandic aircraft, but why isn’t it painted in the Atlanta livery?
RE: Concorde back from Nov. 7!
I’m sure all the people who lost their jobs at BA owing to cutbacks will be delighted to see this hugely expensive white elephant is to fly again. Where is the money coming from to put the Concorde back into service??
RE: Sabena : end of days
If Sabena do go, I will have to fly to Belgium with VLM from London City to Antwerp. I could never patronise the ferry or the train.
On our TV news it said yesterday that Sabena had already gone, then on text news it said they were seeking bankrupcy protection and were continuing to fly as normal. Certainly flights into the UK from Brussels and Antwerp are operating normally. I am keeping a regular eye on things with them as my future travel plans will be chaos if they go.
PS Are they still keeping the Brussels to Boston flight?
RE: Charleroi
Antwerp is wonderful!!
RE: New update
Most of Sabena’s flights into Manchester have been cancelled, with only one operating on Saturday. I thought their problems were more or less sorted. I had two fantastic flights with this super airline in September, and I would be gutted if they ceased operations. I was planning to fly long haul with them sometime in the future as well.
RE: Flight Cancelation
You want to thank your lucky stars you were in ANZ business class. Take it from me, their economy food and service is indescribably awful.
RE: passenger plane( that is what they say) hits world trade center.
I cannot find the wordsto express my horror at this disgraceful attack (if I could they would not be fit to repeat).
RE: which is the best airport
Heathrow, without a doubt. CDG is very poor for viewing and photography, especially from Terminal 2.
RE: whats the best airline and aircraft you have flown
There is only one aircraft type that I have flown in and disliked, and that’s the Boeing 737. I loved the 747, 727, MD80, Fokkers 27 and 50, DC9, Avro RJ and A320. A 767 I once went on was dirty and the seats literally falling apart, but that is the fault of the airline (Air New Zealand) and does not make the 767 a bad aircraft. My two favourite airlines are Air France and SABENA, closely followed by Finnair. I detest Air New Zealand and I am not keen on Icelandair.
RE: BAe 146/Avro RJ
I made a real mess of that posting above, I don’t know what I was thinking about saying about the five abreast seating, I know it’s FOUR ABREAST. Ignore the bit about the MD82 resemblence, but I am reminded of the Fokker 50 by the interior layout of the Avro RJ.
RE: BAe 146/Avro RJ
I have only flown on one of these aircraft, it belonged to SABENA. I found the interior something like a cross between an MD82 (for the five abreast layout) and the Fokker 50, for the cramped appearance of the interior. The one big advantage of this aircraft is the high wings, which did not obstruct the view too much, and its quietness. They are quite decent for flights of around one hour, but I wouldn’t want to spend much longer on one. You never seem to get a proper hot “meal” on these aircraft either.
