Sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful cat, I know how big a part they play in your life. Our little mad thing is almost three years old but we couldn’t imagine life without her as she is such a big part of things.
We lost our dog unexpectedly last year, we had made no decision to lose him, it was made for us after he had two fits and ended up paralysed. The vet told us it was a brain tumour so we had no option but to do the kindest thing.
I know exactly how you are feeling.
The Aborigines have the greatest right to be in Australia – they were there first.
Were the ancestors of these Muslims suicide bombers you have to ask, rather than convicts?

Hoegaarden is nice on a hot day. I remember in Zeebrugge last September the heat was so intense it was almost unbearable. We went into a bar called Old Steamer and I had a big glass of Hoegaarden. It was nice to cool my hands down on the glass and then drink the cold beer while watching the tropical fish in the big tank in the pub.

Thanks for the comments T5.
I think you misunderstood about the swearing – I never said we swore at any of the airport staff, we were complaining among ourselves and swore a bit, we didn’t swear at anyone. We were not very happy, to make an understatement. All the shops had closed – we had not received any of our clothes (at that point we did not know whether we would get our clothes bag or our shoe bag back) including some very expensive new ones and with all the limitations on hand luggage we had not got any essentials with us at all. That was the fault of BA, no one else, as they did all the handling for the flights we were on. Other than that we were very happy with BA on all our flights.
I don’t like anything about it, and Brussels Airlines is a stupid name for a national carrier.
Why not call British Airways “London Airways” or Air France “Air Paris” or Icelandair “Reykjavik Air”? It’s the same stupid idea.
Thanks Sam. It was good to fly on BA and have the chance to sample other aircraft rather than SNBA’s ARJ/146 fleet.
I like the Fokker 50 just a bit more than the ERJ because I like a plane which makes a bit of noise. I don’t go in for all this quiet engine rubbish 😀
I agree with Frank – pity they didn’t use the name Sabena AND keep the nice S on the blue background – the nicest livery currently in use anywhere. But maybe the switch to no frills in economy would be an insult to the Sabena name, Sabena always had very good service on their flights.
I’ve seen some Brussels Airlines 737 painted out of the VEX livery and they are hideous.

And we’ve got to go on one of those spotty tails this year 🙁
Thanks James. The interior of the F50 is positively wide compared to the ERJ, those F50s are comfortably four abreast, I have never been on anything as narrow or flimsy-seeming as the ERJ. I enjoyed the ERJ mainly because it was a totally new experience but the Fokker is better proportioned.
Thanks for the info. As I said, I don’t remember where I read about the Sabena link, it was probably just a rumour on another forum.
Shame that it was cancelled though.
Thanks for the comments – the return flight report is being prepared, the photos have been resized, I just have to upload ’em onto Photobucket now:D
That bag could have earned us a free flight if we’d enrolled it into the frequent flyer programme 😀
My thoughts exactly. Whenever you read about historic aircraft or aircraft preservation it invariably relates to military types. Airliners are just as much a part of our aviation history and heritage as the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster etc. I don’t go with the glamour argument though.
To my mind, aviation enthusiasts should want to see both civil and militaries being preserved for future generations, not just militaries.
Our missing bag finally arrived back in Scarborough last night.
From not showing up on the baggage trace on 24th December, to being found in LHR terminal four on 27th December, to having a flight from BRU-LHR on 30th December and finally from LHR-MAN on 1st January, that damned bag has had more BA flights in the past few days than we have.
The last full day of the holiday was spent in Brugge.

‘t Zand and the fountain lit up in the evening. We used to go and sit here when we had finished our drinks. We discovered a nice new bar with a stunning beer range.

Simon Stevin Plein. This city is one of the most beautiful I have visited.
And after all that hot weather and travelling, it was nice to go into Cambrinus and have some great beer.

Jan van Gent – my Mum’s beer on our last night.

The Belgian amber nectar – heaven in a glass!
