Good report mate, I am off to Brussels on the 4th of Oct with SN from Bristol.

    Si

    Lucky you 😀 😀

My next flight to Brussels is on Christmas Eve with BA from MAN via LHR.

I am spending Christmas in Brugge.

SN are very good but you can get sick of the fruit pies you always seem to get on their flights now.

My Stearman is the Stearman Kaydet by Dave Eckert, the files are on AVSIM and there are loads of repaints available for it. There’s FS2002 and FS2004 ones and it is a beauty to fly. It’s a superb looking model as well.

I’ve also got a nice collection of vintage British jets – 1-11, Comet 4, Trident and VC10.

There will be a return report, I took so many photos on holiday, with all the good weather that I’ve got loads to sort through. The return flight was good as well, especially the approach into Newcastle when it was dark.

We went to the Bigg Market to look for the place that makes that Curry Hell dish but it was closed (we weren’t going to have curry hell but we wanted to try something else). That was only my second visit to Newcastle, I don’t know the place at all.

    Do you:

Just load up random flights, as an when you feel like and go-fly.

Are you part of a “group” of VA’s, e.g. Air Source, The Flying Tigers Group

Are you part of a single VA flying specific types etc for one “airline.”

Yes to all three. I have a diverse collection of aircraft – old warbirds, a Stearman and some helicopters that I just fly for the fun of it when I want a low level flight over a place with some decent scenery or want to go a bit mad in an airport with a hard climb away or approach.

I joined Flying Tigers because at the time I wanted to fly for Delta and Lufthansa and Flying Tigers has both.

But my main flying is done for a small number of single VAs – British Airways (my most regular), SN Brussels, Austrian, Luxair, Iberia. My favourite types to fly are – Twin Otter, Airbus A319/320/321, 737, CRJ, BAe 146/ARJ and the ERJ.

    Thanks for the comments.

Next time we will try and find the Badger. We were surprised that many places in Newcastle centre were closed, that is how we ended up in Pizza Hut (I used to like Pizza Hut but it has gone down the pan a bit the past few years).

We pushed back at 08:09, and taxied to the runway for take off as a Ryanair jet waited to leave behind us. At 08:16 we became airborne.

The Captain was Captain Brinckmann (don’t know if that is spelt right) and he announced that the flight was expected to last 1 hour 10 minutes. We flew along the coast for a little while before we went into thick cloud, which was disappointing as we still don’t know if we flew over home or not.

An inside view of the aircraft. It was mainly full.

Shortly into the flight, the snacks were handed out. And surprise, surprise, it was a fruit tart! Not had many of those on SNBA lately!

    The cherry tart.

I had orange to drink and was quite hungry so I ate the tart.

    Nice chocolates!

There was some slight turbulence in the cloud, and it was cloudy as we flew into Brussels. At 10:12, the gear was lowered, and at 10:14 we landed on familiar 25L after a very pleasant flight.

We were bussed to B terminal and collected our bags in good time. Then we went for dinner and I had spaghetti bolognese in Brussels Cafe.

We caught the Sh*tty into Brussels Noord and then the train to Brugge. We visited some nice new places – Veurne, Eupen, Mons, Zeebrugge, Lier, old favourites such as Oostende and Antwerp and a couple of coastal places as well – Knokke and De Panne.

I also had some great beers – Sloeber (September 2007 is a very good batch!) Leffe 9, Romy, Floris Apple, Leffe Vieille Cuvee, Arabier, Oerbier, Hoegaarden, Jupiler, Ename Blonde and Stella.

It was a damned good holiday with some very hot weather!

Mine means someone originally from Scotland. My family came from Edinburgh on my father’s side a few generations ago.

On my Mother’s side the surname means someone from a certain town in Lancashire but that must have been a long time ago because we are Yorkshire/Notts and Lincs so far without any trace of Lancashire

The Poles are stealing our jobs, that is a fact. Here in Scarborough, and other holiday places, hotels and bars which gave jobs to students in the summer are now giving those jobs to Poles, leaving the students without any income during the university holidays. That is not right.

We hear of other places which do not recruit British staff to replace those who leave – their jobs go to Poles.

We have spoken to people in the building industry who say that Eastern Europeans are a danger to other workers with their claims that they do not understand English when it suits them.

And, as someone who is unable to get a job, I say they should not be here.

Nice to see another Comet fan on here.

I never flew in a Comet, I was too late – when I had my first ever flight the Comet had been withdrawn by the airline a few months before so we ended up in a 707.

May i suggest u head round to wings the airport bar over at the old termial see what u can get from there then head for the end of runway 25 you could get some great images from there. And if your after a good meal head for the badger next to the gardan center.

Thanks for that, we will certainly want a good meal because the hotel food isn’t up to much (their breakfasts are OK but that’s all).

    How do you get there?

I hope the restrictions will be totally eased by the time we fly. If not, then this will be the first time I’ve flown on holiday without my video camera in years. It has been on every holiday flight with me since 2000 and I’ve managed to get some superb footage at various airports like MAN, BRU, DUB, BHX, LCY, CDG. I was looking forward to getting it into the departure lounge at NCL to get some easyJets and our own plane.

I check the situation on most days but there are no updates yet.

My digital camera isn’t suitable for NCL because the zoom is not so strong from where we are (Britannia Hotel) but the video would have got the take offs easily.

Nice photos. I’m back at NCL in a couple of weeks and not too happy that I can’t take my video camera with me because it exceeds baggage size for allowed hand luggage 😡

It has a strong zoom and is perfect for filming approaching and departing planes.
