i miss one airliner and these guys were good and not that bad they had good service on the plane the places were old a bit then the other airliners and they had maybe bit a noise engines but they were good still and they were SWISS AIR. 😀 🙂 :diablo:
Nice photo, shame about the airline :diablo:
Those of us who loved Sabena will never forgive the Swiss airline.
Sabena – flying together with Swissair, bankrupt together with Swissair.
We filled in a comment card at NCL just before we got on the plane, and gave it a real panning.
Last week we got a pre-worded reply saying that they hoped we would not be put off using Newcastle International in future.
We have to use it in September, unfortunately, but after that we will not be going anywhere near the place.
Even small London City has better facilities than Newcastle does. You should be able to get some proper food in the landside area like you can in other UK airports.
I like props to be noisy. There is nothing to beat the Fokker 50 as it powers up, I could listen to that all day (no kidding!) Also Fokkers are great fun to fly in.
I miss seeing PanAm Jumbos flying over Scarborough, but I never flew on them.
But there is only one truly missed airline for me – Sabena. SNBA are good but they don’t measure up to their predecessor.
I only had four flights on Sabena, and, if things had been different, I would have had many more. The crews were very friendly, professional and good humoured.
Leisure in the 1980s from my own experience:
Listening to music (not much different to today, but tapes and not MP3 players).
Watching films (video rather than DVD!)
Playing on my home computer, the annoyingly temperamental ZX Spectrum.
Walking the dog (now I have no dog at all so that is one thing which is gone).
Going to the vets (not a regular leisure thing for most people but when I was a kid I was there all weekends and in school holidays).

Welcome Vonsmalhausen, always great to see photos from my favourite airport 😀
Thanks again for comments. Sorry about reflections 😮
Good for MAN to get that DC10. Now I’ve bagged one of those I want to get a TriStar, I just missed the Hewa Bora one at BRU last week, it left before I got into the departure lounge, I saw it take off 🙁 That is the first time I’ve been at BRU so late on a Sunday, I’ve usually left early afternoon but last week I was there until about 3pm so that is how I got those new ones.
Thanks for the comments guys! Those photos were taken from the departure lounge. The views from in there are superb because it is nearly all one window (apart from a few bits where the window is inaccessible). It is one of my favourite airprots for taking photos.

Two Iberia planes, including my favourite CRJ! I’d forgotten that beauty came to BRU on a Sunday.

Ready to depart for Oviedo.

ElAl.

I don’t like the Biman scheme, but when a DC10 arrives you cannot ignore it!

Olympic.

Jetairfly with non-standard white nose.

Icelandair Cargo – another first for me.

Iberia.

We had the dubious pleasure of boarding a plane via steps at NCL on 31st March, so we were soaking wet when we got on the plane. It was not a good day for photography.
EDIT: Is the SN plane landing or taking off? If it’s taking off then I was on it. If it’s landing then I was waiting to board it.
We approached the coast (don’t know wheter it was the Belgian coast or the Dutch coast).

The coastline.
Soon we began our descent into Brussels. The Captain had announced that it was cloudy and raining in Brussels.

A wonderful sight after leaving vile NCHell – Belgium!!
We descended towards runway 25L, and it was a slightly turbulent descent through clouds. We touched down at 13:02 and taxied to the terminal. It was great to be back!

Martinair – parked alongside us.
We collected our luggage and had a meal and some Vieux Temps in Brussels Cafe before catching the sh*tty into Brussels and heading to our hotel.

View from our seat.
Our scheduled departure time was 10:40, but, thanks to the gate change and the stupid airport staff not announcing the change, people were late boarding. We pushed back at 10:51, after receiving a copy of Connect.

Connect.
We were told that the flight would last 1 hour 15 minutes. We taxied to runway 07 and took off and 10:58. It was so nice to see the back of that damned awful airport.
We climbed through low cloud.

What a pity there is no Airshow on the smaller planes, as it would have been very interesting to know our exact routing and whether or not we flew over Scarborough.

The snack was an apple tart. I didn’t eat it as I’ve had them before and don’t like them. I had orange juice to drink.

The chocolates.
At last we saw what we had been waiting for.

A new friend approaches the gate.

Avro RJ85 OO-DJY from the departure lounge.
We had been told that we would be boarding at gate 24. We went into the claustrophobic departure gate area, but DJY looked alot closer than gate 24! We went to gate 24 but there was a sign saying “No flights due to depart from this gate”. The TV monitor listed every flight but ours and there was no one to ask about the sudden, unannounced change of gate! It is all very well the NCHell authorities saying that passengers must check screens for information, but when they can’t be bothered to get off their fat backsides and put the information on the screens then what are you supposed to do?
Eventually we discovered that the flight was now to depart from gate 19.

BritishJet parked alongside DJY.
We boarded up steps in the pouring rain. We were greeted by the female purser and a stewardess stood at the back. We had a front engine view and there was no Business Class.
