I run the free version of AVG anti-virus, and it’s alot better than pc-cillin, which kept crashing my computer when it was updated 😡 The AVG detected and removed three trojans this year. I also have Zone Alarm firewall, Adaware 6 and Spybot. The Spybot is better than Adaware because it will pick things out which Adaware misses.

From what I have seen of Albania it is a beautiful country, with some spectacular mountain scenery and some interesting ancient Greek style ruins. It is a pity that the country is so politically unstable because otherwise I believe it would be very popular with tourists and this could really improve the economy of the country and the quality of life for the people.

I’m interested in Multiplayer, but I too have dial up. That is why I cannot do online flying for any VA 🙁

But if you do set up a session, I’ll try and join you.

I agree with you. Blast the bloody Beckhams and Natasha bloody Bedingfield into space, then we will no longer be troubled by Lady David’s new nail varnish colour, or his new sarong, or his new knickers, and we won’t have to endure Bedingfield’s screaming and wailing.

I’m a beer-loving, aviation-loving girl who has been around on here since 2000 (discovered the forums in my university days when I used their computers instead of my own :diablo: and when I was supposed to be doing my assignments :diablo: )

I prefer the civil to the military stuff though, and I’m also into flight sim.

Geforce – as a “qualified” Belgian bar tender you should be ashamed not to know what the difference is between beer and lager (I assume by “beer” you mean “ale”?) Lager is a bottom-fermented beer, the ales, such as Trappist, Abbey (like Leffe), witbiers such as Hoegaarden and Flemish browns such as those produced by Liefmans are top fermented. Then you have spontaneous fermentation, which is how you get your lambic, faro and gueuze.

Many students prefer lager (as they do here) because that is the beginners beer and is okay for the masses. Other beers are for connoisseurs who have a more developed taste. I agree that the bars in Brugge are tourist traps, but what do you do when you want a decent drink and have no access to proper pubs in your hometown so you have to wait until you go on holiday?

Many British tourists go for a Belgian beer for the novelty value without truly understanding what they are going to drink. I know the characteristics of every beer I order so bar staff cannot mess me around!

Maybe I should stop there to ceebrate my last days as a student! :p

    Cheers!

    Good idea!!! 😀 😀 😀

I wish I could have spent my university days with a local like that one, that really is my kind of place. The university bar I endured was one where the beer was more expensive than it is in the off license (and they claim student facilities are cheap 😮 ) The bar served pizzas and burgers, which were okay but the catering staff treated everyone like sh*t. One day the fat cow on the till just held her hand out for my money without saying a word (not even “please”) so I just slammed the money down on the counter at the side of her and then snatched my change.

Stieglitz – I was happy with De Zandloper, I drank there regularly in 2001 and 2002. I would never go there again after the stupid barmaid knowingly served us the beer in wrong glasses (Malheur in a Kwak glass and Kwak in a Malheur glass) and then stood and laughed at us. She soon stopped laughing when she realsied that we knew more about beer than she did and she had to bring us the beers in the proper glasses.

So my idea of a Belgian pub is one where the staff have manners and know how beer should be poured and served. Not asking too much in the beer capital of the world is it? 😀

Now ‘t Brugs Beertje is something else – at least the beers are served correctly there and the staff have manners.

Started at the age of fifteen, working as an assistant in the local grocery shop. Quite boring. Being a student in Belgium is quite easy though. Students here normally don’t work during the week or even the weekend. However, I do work in a pub during weekends. (I even have a diploma from Stella, which means you can hire me as an official bartender :))

I hope you serve those beers in the correct glasses, Geforce! Don’t do the same as they do at De Zandloper in Brugge (the owners of De Zandloper are con artists when it comes to serving beer 😡 )

From the age of 15 I spent my Saturdays and school holidays cleaning cages, watching and cleaning up after operations, watching lambs being pulled out of ewes, holding animals while they are examined and retreiving case notes at a local vet clinic – best job ever! I had always wanted to be a vet, but seeing vet work “live” convinced me even more that it was the only job for me.

When I was doing A levels I did summer work at our local cricket ground when Yorkshire played their games. That was selling ground tickets, counting entrance fees and getting complimentary tickets from the players to give to their friends when they came to the gate and asked for them. I did encounter some famous players of the time as well, so that was a perk 😀

I like writing stories, and I have written loads of poems in the past. I had some published in a local newspaper, and used to have a site with my poems on. They were inspired by Iceland, Norse mythology and the Sagas. I don’t write slushy, rhyming garbage and some of the poems tended to be quite long.

Frank, Have you EVER been to Scarborough? :D:D

I went there once but it was closed.

    JC
I’m in Coventry, so it may a case of Pot, Kettle and black 🙂

    You are right John
    😀

Scarborough has some of the worst shops in Yorkshire, the worst public transport in England, horrid pubs, hostels for drug addicts and streets which stink of puke. I don’t mean to cause offence, but “bloody” is a mild way to describe what kind of place this has become. Especially when it used to be so nice here. And I am never kind about the joke shop because they once sold my beloved Rochefort 10 to someone else after I had ordered it for Christmas 😡 That is why we choose to go to Brussels to stock up on beer. What a pity we can’t charge the cost of the airfare to the owner of that shop… :diablo:

(For people not familiar with beer from Trappist monasteries, Rochefort 10 is Belgium’s second strongest beer at 11.3%. It is one of the nicest beers brewed in Belgium, and is my second favourite after my even more beloved Sloeber. But don’t get me onto Belgian beer because you would never shut me up :diablo: )

That depends on how you work it out. I enjoy my beer, but not the common or garden crap you get in a local off license or Tesco. We had two trips over to Belgium this year (three if you count my annual holiday there). Two of the trips were purely to stock up on beer, and I bought some beer whilst on holiday. So if you add up the cost of flights (I don’t lower myself to go on the ferry and I don’t fly with Ryanair but with a proper airline) we make to get the beer, then we spend hell of alot on it.

If I buy a bottle of beer from the joke shop in Scarborough ( will not refer to it as a beer shop because it is a bl**dy joke of a place!) then the average cost of that one bottle is £1.75 because I am buying quality beers (some will cost more, believe me).

I don’t smoke and I spend my time looking forward to my next visit to Belgium (scheduled for next March) because there is f*ck all else to do in bl**dy Scarborough 😡
